Does anyone here own the Aphex Singles box set?..it's a
Japan only release from a while back...

If so, what singles are included?...

is it 51/73 (can't remember the 2nd number)? it's got
ventolin+remixes, on (no remixes), donkey rhubarb, and a
'respect list' made with a macintosh speakable voice, where
he thanks "that guy next door with his dogs". Not worth
steep price which you'll pay for an import by any stretch of
the imagination.

jands use of the word "box" is making me picture a completly
different release altogether... :-/

BlatantEcho-- the singles from mellon chollie and the
infanant sadness disk?

yeah i grabbed the box set when it came out.

sold it back about 6 months ago, a few places said, they
couldnt touch it with a 10' pole

(meaning they had seen enough of the box sets and apparently
didnt sell back that great)

the sad thing is that the smashing box set was originally
supposed to be a limited edition so i was really happy when
i got it.

turned out it's not so limited at all. every cd shop has at
least one, even today, it seems.

still, there's some GOOD music on there. especially the zero
cd

yeah
i bought all the singles as they came our 1 by 1
then the box set has xtra songs on the cd singles..

i did keep zero
and its not just to see the tits on the chic inside the cd
insert.

yeah, I'm not talking about 51/13....this is something else
apparently...

It came out just after Windowlicker...but info is very
sparse...do a google for "aphex singles box" and it'll come
up with a few little pointers but no real detail...

In the words of Toyah, "It's a Mystawee..it's a
mystawee"...:)..

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-14 09:16 [#00403207]

...That's because it never came out.

The Aphex Box Set was planned by Warner/Sire of Japan, and
was supposed to include all his singles (sans HAB 1&2) off
WARP up to Windowlicker. It never happened, even though it
went as far as getting a catalogue number and being listed
in some online stores.

Sorry to disappoint Jand :)

Warner/Sire = Bad Anyway
Warner/Sire = Wont let Richard use 'Aphex Twin'

Don't give corps cash. Buy loads of stuff from Rephlex.

I know, my mate works for warner (AOL) and aparently they're
swine. They sacked a guy for giving an interview /o
permission even though he didn't give away any "classified"
info, just his honest opinion...

I want another AFX release...

Sire is now London-Sire, and it's even more crap than
before.

sire released some good music in the early 90s tho.. weren't
my bloody valentine on sire?

do you know anything about what attracted RDJ to sire?

joyrex prolly knows even more about rdj than the man
himself.

Sire did release some good stuff back in the day but it was
licensed from elsewhere like MBV (creation), Smiths (rough
trade).

absolutely! RDJ seems to have a really shit memory ("Never
Trust A Junky!" -Nancy from Sid & Nancy), combined w/ the
fact that he prolly doesn't give a fuck about knowing
"trainspotter" information about himself

ps. Joy...are you 100% sure...

Got mail from Japan and it would appear it DOES exist...but
very very rare...

Think they may be test pressings or something...

not that interested in owning it; got it all anyway but it
is out thre....

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-14 17:06 [#00403586]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Nope, does NOT exist.

RDJ wasn't attracted to Sire, moreover it was Warner
Bros/WARP that had more to do with that than RDJ himself.

If the stories about his contract being up with WARP are
true (which I think now they are not), I am curious what
kind of contractual obligation he has to Sire (if any) now.

The only real good Sire/RDJ story I know of is how they paid
90K USD in advance for a new album (this was around the time
of Windowlicker) because apparently WARP promised them or
they expected it after a single which they invested heavily
in (Windowlicker with the HyperCD technology, which was new
at the time) and didn't get the final product until last
year with DrukQs.

That, and even two years after Windowlicker debuted, Sire
was still moving over 100 copies per week!

though?

Joy....4 (yes 4!..) copies exist...

Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Where'd you find this out?

Do you have a catalog # for it?

I can check with my contacts to see what the deal is.

4 copies of a CD box set? I don't think they would go
through that much trouble to press an entire box set plus
packaging and then abort the release, unless they are
designer mock ups sent for final approval.

Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

Can't give away my contacts on this...will get them into
trouble...

mock ups they were...will endeavour to get a pic for ya...

no cat#....

Didn't need to press the CDs they were already pressed,
doh....

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-15 00:26 [#00403804]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Already pressed? So that means there are quite a few more
than just 4 (sans packaging) in existance.

I had a CAT# ages ago for it (the Japanese Warner ones
(Wxxxxxx) when it was listed on some of the mail order
sites, but that info is long gone...unless I look in my old
backups of joyrex.com.

you misunderstand me....the CDs are standard japan release
disc (pretty much the same as standard aprt from extra track
on Windowlicker...)...

It was the Box that was mocked up...

Oh, so it's just On, On Remixes, Ventolin, Ventolin Remixes,
Come To Daddy, Come To Daddy Remixed and Windowlicker in a
box set?

Strange that they would do it like that, but if you can come
up with any more info/scans, I'd love to know about it.
