Ken Downie, Ed Handley and Andy Turner was The Black Dog
between 1989-1995. TBD is still alive tho, leaded by Ken but
a lot of people are involved. It's like a parallell to
Gescom.

Ed and Andy is aka Plaid.

Black Dog Productions - Bytes freakin rules. I love that
album soo much.

Now if only Ed would still make tracks under Balil....

Phob, do you know if their other aliases are dead perhaps?

And how can you not like Plaid ward!!!!
Something is definitely wrong with you....

oh, man it's great!!!!

My favorite Warp release to date.....

if you have access try d/l

Balil - 3/4 Heart
Balil - Merck

I would highly suggest it....I had to order it from Warp
since it's pretty hard to find('93)

Trust me, pick it up, you won't regret it.

Peel Sesions are different tracks....I believe those went
onto Spanners?

Anyway, anything by them after Bytes wasn't very good. The
only song I liked by them after Bytes was 'Psil-Cosyin' off
of Spanners.

Also, on Plaid's official website they have some MP3's to
d/l of their aliases.

There's 2 songs by Ed under 'Balil' and one song by Andy
under 'Close up and Over' check them out.

I haven't seen any new tracks by Balil/Tura/Atypic
lately.... so I guess they are "dead for now". :)

I see I see. Well, perhaps they might give it some thought,
since they've gotten what they wanted out of the Trilogy of
albums.

Hopefully, you'll be able to let us know if anything comes
to light phob?

i got Trainer, my first Plaid, a few months ago and even
though I like it, it failed to really impress me that much.
Is their album work more representative ?

uviol: try "Rest Proof Clockwork", "Not For Threes"
and "Double Figure".

"Trainer" is more like a compilation of early/unreleased
tracks and does not really hit modern Plaid standard.

hehe thanks phobia! I suspected as much.. since it was a
compilation and all. I remember hearing 'Booc' off of
Routine and thinking it was better.. anyway: I will give
them another chance and pick up one of those albums. thanks
again..

I loved Trainer....guess I'm a sucker for a lot of early
90's stuff.

Damn right Cortex. It's Essential.

bytes is great, abstract geometric percussion or something.
complex like squarepusher, only in a looped organized way.
old cd with dated sound but that doesn't stop it from being
entertaining.

Yes sir, it might be dated, but the melodies and beats
produced on this album are very much entertaining. In a
way, I wish today's music still had this feeling that Bytes
gives off.
