The BBC will shortly be recording a radio play based upon
Delia Derbyshire's life. Blue Veils and Golden Sands,
written by Martin Wade and produced by Cherry Cookson, will
dramatise episodes from Delia's life, featuring characters
such as Peter Kember (playing himself), Anthony Newley and,
of course, Ron Grainer. Other roles include Delia's school
careers officer and her senior tutor at Cambridge
University. The soundtrack is by Elizabeth Parker (herself
formerly of the Radiophonic Workshop) and will include Blue
Veils and Golden Sands, The Delian Mode and Moogies
Bloogies, as well as additional music by Experimental Audio
Research, Aphex Twin and Orbital.

The play will be recorded at Delaware Road, using the same
rooms and corridors in which Delia worked. This promises to
be a very authentic and touching tribute to one of
electronic music's unsung pioneers.

How come you of all people get all excited about
electroacoustic music? Is it because of Dr Who?

I have a record by BBC radiophonic workshop called "Out of
this World" which Delia contributed to...

It's all weird early synths and chimes etc. lots of very
short ambient pieces and sound effects.

more information...

"many sounds have never been heard - by humans: some sound
waves you don't hear - but they reach you. 'storm stereo'
techniques combine singers, instrumentalists and complex
electronic sound. the emotional intensity is at a maximum."

make of that what you will

Delia Derbyshire is the QUEEN of techno...without doubt...

an unsung heroine....

Gave it up after things got "too easy"....

She was the original APHEX TWIN...

(that's why we love her, Meho...did you read the recent WIRE
article about her?...)...

My dad has that album (in amongst his Wings and Paul
McCartney) and I've been meaning to give it a spin for
years. I'll have to dig it out again.
