Hey everyone I know it's old but I just got this album.
What are your thoughts on it?

man i've been listening to that album since the day it came
out in 1998... one of my favorite albums. a nice little
diversion for dj shadow. particularly great:

guns blazing w/ kool g rap
lonely soul w/ richard ashcroft
unreal
rabbit in your headlights w/ thom yorke
unkle main title theme

Yep yep! Listening to it third time through right now. Taken
me a while to get it, my town hasn't got many decent music
stores that I have found.

Lonely Soul is fucking excellence. Oh yes.

I really like it as well. it has a track that contains what
could very well be the best thing jason newsted was ever a
part of, heh.

anyway, it's definitely a fav of mine.

Mike D's pic is cool. Who the HELL is the guy to the left of
him?

unkle is alright, definately not anything special. that song
with mike d sucks for the most part because he just stole
lyrics from songs hes already done with bboys throughout
most of the song. i dont really care for chaos either and
that ballbusters track just gets in the way of the music.

Oh well there's a bit of everything on there Murray. To
quote Pitchfork: The record jumps all over the map; one
minute you're listening to bottom-heavy big beat, the next
you're swimming in the pool at old lady trip-hop's house.
But despite Psyence Fiction's eclecticism, Shadow and
Lavelle were able to maintain direction, creating a chilling
excursion into a land of ethereal keyboard loops, dramatic
string sections, and serious-ass rhythm assaults.

Basically sums it up.

i agree with that pitchfork thing somewhat, theyre are no
rhythm assaults at all, nothing like dj shadow stuff on his
other releases. the drums are so much more boring on this
one but still pretty decent.

i agree with the diversity of the album* and not with the
rhythm assaults

richard ashcroft, damon gough, thom yorke, errr ....?

there're "rhythm assault" on bloodstain, guns blazing, a
couple others..

the strings in lonely souls, where everything stops and the
strings start a new section. Amazing!

I hate this. Unkle sucks.

My rock loving friends like it though. Electric guitars and
all.

It's basicly the money earning project of the mo-wax guys.
They don't try to hide that fact.

Guess it's okay that they earn some money, too bad they have
to release this to do it.

there are electric guitars on only a couple tracks, don't
front. but you are right, dj shadow's always been
dissatisfied with the album cos james lavelle made him
collaborate with all these famous people. he enjoyed most of
the collaborations (especially thom yorke since radiohead is
his favorite band) but the only guest he actually picked was
kool g rap. anyway, i think it's a phenomenal album.

Watch the "rabbit in your headlight" video here.
Masterful video!! the exploding car at the end =)
I recomend watching Tool's "Parabola" video too .

Like Titsworth i have never really stoped listening to
"Psyence Fiction" since it came out.
Great album.

At first I have to say that this LP is kinda lame. I think
DJ Shadows Style cant work in full effect under this wall of
sound of Pop & Rock. I dont understand how you can actually
like RIYH ?!? This Track is the Nightmare-Sellout-Track for
DJ Shadow itself.
But other Tracks on hte UNKLE EP?s are very cool. Does
anyone know the Track Sassafrass (Plaid Remix) ? This is
sooo cool. Or Coffeeshop Conversation? These are some cool
UNKLE. When the LP came out I was disappointed.
