I think that might be a bad thing, considering you got Mrs.
McToilet, Mayor McToilet and bUnChOFfux running around
here....... plus you would lose some of the speed of the
message board. hyperlinks are fine I think.

Here is a way you can link to a picture and open up a new
window in your browser.

example:

< a href="http://www.apple.com" target=_blank>Apple

no space after the bracket (<) though

Apple

don't forget < /a> to close the link

[no space there either]

oh ya

< a href="insert URL here" target=_blank>description of
link

no space after the bracket (<)

I forgot about to turn the tag off....

thanks Asche XL

It would have a severe impact on the speed and
badnwidth-usage of the messageboard, i'm sure. And i also
wouldn't to open up a topic and have some fucked
up/disgusting image in front of me, knowing the lot of you.
;)

a somewhat inoppertune request considering the recent
bandwidth hassles Phobia is struggling with

I don't really think that is a good idea

You will get alot of trolls posting stupid pics

Why ? Remote Linkin would have no effect on the bandwhite of
the MB ?!

hm. if you've got problems paying for the bandwidth, this
doesn't sound like a good idea. but you could add loading of
images on external sites.

on an off note.. being on a university, problems with
bandwidth seems so weird. we've got too much of it here.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-06 00:01 [#00394036]

Yeah, but Phob should have oodles of bandwidth now that
XLtronic is on a dedicated server.

The best way Phob and Tune could implement this is to
provide a thumbnail image in the thread (generated by PHP's
GD library) and that way only small, no larger than the
avatar-sized images would load, and IF people were curious
enough about the image, they could click the image to launch
a fitted window around the full size image (also making sure
there are upload size limits, both in terms of pixels and
kb). I think it would be a great addition to an already
great board.

I'm sure someone would post some porn, but I'm also sure it
wouldn't be there long before a moderator gets to it...

That's actually a pretty cool idea Joyrex, with the
thumbnail script.

Do you delete old pics on your board?
I tryed to find an old one i posted but the pics in that
thread wouldn't load.
No big deal , just curious.

There's lots of mods around to snuff out .jpg offenders, I
don't think there'd be too many problems... except from our
lovable resident troll... other than that, I'd like being
able to post pics.

The reason for broken pics on my board was due to my
(ex)hosting company moving the site to a 'lockbox' server.
All will be corrected once we move to the new server. Sorry
for the inconvenience.

Editing posts would be nice here (I've suggested it for
ages), and if Phob is worried about people editing their
posts to cover up arguements, etc. there could be a default
time limit to edit, say within 5 minutes after a message is
posted it can be edited, after that it locks. PHPBB2 has
this feature on some of the other sites I visit and I really
like it as it allows people to correct silly errors, etc.
but also keeps the integrity of the messageboard intact.

Since this is a custom-scripted board, the sky's the limit
with what Tune and Phob can do - great job guys!

I can edit my posts. Whenever I make a spelling mistake or
something, I cut and paste my message, click on delete, then
fix the offending embarrasing raping of the english
language... and re-post.

*har har har

If you get concerned about what people may post, only give
people who donate some money picture priveleges or something
like that. Or they have to reach a certain number of post
before they came post pictures...

Agreed - that would be a great way to inspire people to
donate to the site, AND keep trolls from posting offensive
material on the site - just make sure if you do implement
this you clearly state donating is not paying so you can
post anything you want - there still should be guidelines.

That is a damn good idea. Encourage people to donate and
... oh wait ... what about rich trolls?!?!

well, I guess you could just ban them over and over and make
them donate each time they want to make a new account or get
their picture priviledge back =)

It seems like we're back to our original idea about having
Premium/Standard memberships.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-10-07 10:47 [#00395273]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Yes, but just don't bundle 'essential' features with the
memberships that would not allow regular 'free' visitors
features any mb/site should have - there is nothing easier
to alienate users is by 'teasing' them with features they
should have from the start.

I'm sure the xltronic crew will implement things just fine!

My question about editing was just me trying to make fun of
Phobiazeros little "abdnwith" fuck up (that he edited) as
indiskrete and subtle as possible. =)
I think Phobia Understood that , smart man as he is (i also
have many subtle ways of sucking up! )
Of course with this post i ruined it...
