Is this a good "starter" one? http://www.htfr.com/products/browseprod.php?browseby=bycat& category=mixers&catno=MR68600& I want a 3 channel, record out one so I can jam with a mate and record the output. Is this a reasonable price? Any advice much appreciated. Thank you. |

that's a dj mixer dude. u don't need the crossfader. I would go for a behringer one, less expensive, more features (sends, rec out...). Better if u r not into djing. They're built exactly like the mackie's ones (they been in troubles for that) but cost three times less, u can find it in different sizes, so one will fit u. I used a pair of behringer mixers, quiete effective, good sound (not superb), solid enough. |

That would start you off for decks anyway if your sick of your moms crappy one. RE: AB3 and such. |

Sorry, I didn't really explain fully what I wanted... I want to get a mixer now, so I can link 2 PC's audio out and also the output from a mixer from my friend's decks all at the same time. I would also like to be able to use it when I buy some record decks in the near future. Thanks Spikee, I was looking at DJ starter sets, but I'd like a straight arm one so I can scratch (scratching is the main reason I want to move away from traktor...) I notice it says you need a seperate amp & speaker to get sound out, is it possible to link a non-amped mixer to th line in of a PC & use that as an amp & speaker combo? Is the sound quality any good (I'd use gold connection leads). Phiz- I did think that I wouldn't really want a sampler, but I've been playing with the loop function in traktor and I'm thinking that a sampler would be useful. Am I right in thinking you can set a mixer sampler to loop? |

Plug that into your PC and everything will be fine. It's better to connect it to a stacker tho. Your gonna have shit sound on cheep PC speakers so ensure you have a good set. If you want to scratch (either because you have a vendetta against needles or vinyl) then you would be better off staying clear of belt driven decks. add like another £100-£200 + onto that price. I'd ask others too since I just mix and thats a pain with belt drives. |

i got crap decks with no cross'fader....just 2 volume controls and the fucking headphone plug is fried.. but, i make braindance mixes like nobody else based on "feeling the vibes"... from the vinyls. I seem to just know how to cue up tracks for mixing IDM.... i swear it sounds fantastic. I say.....FUCK HEADPHONES (cept when yer listening to SP on acid) |

I've got good cambridge soundworks 5.1 speakers- Sound quality is not a propblem on them :) I've been told to avoid belt driven decks before. I've had a go on my mate's straight arm stantons but they're belt driven. I thought direct drive just made mixing easier due to them not falling out of synch? How does it affect scratching, is it that slight delay before playing at full speed when you stop scratching? I find to just mix traktor does it well- sorts outs your BPM & synching for you etc. Some would argue it take sthe skill out of djing, but I think it works pretty well :) |

I've managed to get (the odd) good mixes on traktor w/o headphones so far. The graphical representation of the wave certainly helps though :) |

I mix IDM and old jazz classics with a digital mixer. Last night I mixed the full "Ascenseur pour le chafaud" (!?!?) vinyl with electronica in a club. Ppl started staring at me, and when I was finished, they just wanted more and more. Cool night, cool grrls |

You will be scratching then SNAP!... oooo, the deck is nice and smooth now. Much more loose. The delay makes lining the tracks up without funky leds a pain in the ass. |

Yep, I broke my hi-fi belt deck by scratching Intergalactic (the record I learnt to scratch on) to excess. I thought "real" belt driven decks could withstand this.. I'd better warn my mate :) Thanks for the info. I know about the delay, my natural rhythm is pretty crap, so I find it hard to mix (as in end/start of different tracks) on normal decks. |

I was joking about scratching with my 5 Universal Indicators. I like the look of panic on peoples faces. Like get a crappy old record and photocopy the center image from Joyrex and stick it on the crappy record, play Joyrex, stop it, pick up the fake one, show people, ...throw it at the wall as hard as posible or start biting the fuck out of it. *swishes his tail violently* |

Ceri, the sampler does loop, and give one shots also, and a pitch control for the sample. a good trick for getting mad sounds out of a dack is to move the center hole a couple on millimeters, creates a monster warped tone, fucks your stylus but you can create some nutty loops. |

I know what you mean, maybe buy some cheap spare stylus & cartridges that you put on just to do that then sample it, put your normal ones on and play using the warped loop sample. BTW, does that sampler keep the memory when it's turned off? What're "one shots"? |

no, it doesnt store the sound, bit of a downer but you can record it into your computer and save it that way. one shot is when you just hit for one play of the sample, so you can just tap it fast and it will stutter the start of the sample, good for breakdowns. |
