damn. only time i've ever seen anyone die(atleast i assume
he died) was when i saw a car lose control, hydroplane, and
fly off a raised highway into another highway below, where
it was almost instantaneously scattered about the road by a
large truck. that was scary as hell.

and i mean damn as in thats really horrible, not as in
"damn, i haven't seen as much death and mayhem as you".

Yikes.....I've never seen death close up only stories---you
know your name fits so well with your picture =)

I'm glad you corrected that cause it did seem that way, then
I was thinking "but I've never seen death either?" then I
was just thinking "oh well he's talking directly to me so
I'll just go along with it"

I've never seen anything cool :(

Cool?? if youre talking about death theres nothing cool in
that but if you think hard enough I'm sure you can remember
something cool.

Your picture looks "cool"

I was watching a documentary on the September 11th terrorist
attack blah blah blah. This man was following the
firefighters as they walked into one of the towers and I
swear you can hear the thumps of people falling from
windows...that was the scariest sound I've ever heard so
far.

Did I mention death? I was referring to the "Action Film"
element, not the death.

My picture is a still from a film. Big Philosophical
difference between that and a photograph of a REAL
death-victim.

Yes, I saw that same documentary.

yeah dude, death isn't cool, thats why i corrected myself. i
suppose there is some sort of exhiliration, otherwise i
doubt we would share these stories.

I guess the exhileration and excitement occurs DURING the
event, before the consequences start to seep into our minds
like insidious pools of oil

yeah. its kind of odd though. it seems like people can have
an unhealthy fixation with death. not that this topic is
unhealthy or something, as it was exactly the consequences
that the people on here are talking about. but death isn't
cool.

It's understandable why people are transfixed by death tho,
from a psychological point of view.

yeah sure it is. odd that the two taboos in society, sex and
death, are the two things we've all got in common.

I suppose: creation and destruction - the two extremes of
our earthly existence... or something like that :)

I saw a lot of disturbing things during my tenure at teh
funeral home, but the most disturbing thing I have ever seen
(and still haunts me to this day) is a video I saw on
www.stileproject.com of a family out in Africa where they
drive you through the brush and there are lions all around
your car, etc. Well, the dad gets out to photograph the
lions, and they start mauling him - someone in the car
behind them is videotaping this, and then they pan over to
the kids in the car, watching their dad get mauled, and the
little girl is banging on the window of the car frantically.
Having a daughter, and children in general seems to have
made me more sensitive to these kinds of things. None of the
things I saw during my time with the funeral home bothered
me though, but that was before I had kids.

I'll recount some stories when I get some extra time.

"But just hearing about it disturbed me. Disturbance is
good, though"

Yeah i think so too. Shows your a normal functioning
person.
I hate guys who try to be hard by pretending to like that
sort of stuff.
Insecure behaviour i say!

another thing... I saw the Danielle Pearl video, the guy
that was kidnapped and decapitated in Afghanistan somewhere.
it was freaky, he was sittin there and the Taliban guys were
like screaming in whatever language and then they cut his
head off, i have that scarred in my head ever since...

I think maybe the reason witnessing death scares us all so
much is the realization that it could be us(?) Besides the
fact that it sucks to die, if I was on a wet road for
example, and saw someone hydroplane and swerve off a cliff,
i'd probably break down at the mere thought that it could
have been me.

Well, I just don't like the fact of seeing someone's
existence snuffed out... I think it's sick to enjoy that.

I also dont think theres anything to enjoy when seeing
someone in pain...I get so annoyed when theres a car
accident and everyone slows down to watch, its disturbes
me....how much respect do us humans have for eachother. Give
a prayer and go on your way.....I too would break down if I
saw a fatal accident. It's so sad.

"I think maybe the reason witnessing death scares us all so

Yeah i think so too.
You wake up and realise bad shit can happen to you.
Watching stuff on the news and on movies doesn't have the
same impact.

perhaps the phobia exists. =]
