Xbox would be the last thing I'd buy, I have both GC and PS2
and because there are little games available for GC in the
UK yet, its unfair of me to make a comparison based on the
vast range of Sony software.....

BTW: eXXailon, if you get one of those damn MS things I'll
never talk to you again...

:P

I second Jedi Chris's recommendation wholeheartedly :
Buy an Xbox -- There are some absolutely mind-boggling
games coming out for it soon(Fable, BC, Psychonauts, Deus Ex
2, Splinter Cell, Jedi Knight II, etc...). You're going to
see some amazing things done on this system. The best part
about it, I think, is that it's an occidental gaming
platform with many more occidental developers than other
consoles.. Big eyes, puss-puss main characters embroiled in
nausiating soap operas with dominant females, cheesy
elevator music, crappy dialogue... I've had about all the
Japanese I can stomach*. If you want it to be known that
you're a REAL man, buy an Xbox. The Xbox is a REAL man's
system : More horsepower than any other console, sex appeal
through the roof(speaking of which, since I bought mine I've
grown huge patches of hair on my left butt cheek and
shoulders... Something to think about.), and last but not
least, it's fucking huge! Easily weighs as much as 8
gamecubes put together.. I'm sure I don't have to quote the
ancient proverb about size.
..Anyway, that's my opinion i.e. indisputable truth of the
matter.

*With the exception of the venerable Miyamato's Nintendo
titles. Pikmin is one of the best games I've played in
years.. Just finished Starfox Adventures which was also
fantastic. Everything this man touches is gold.

:S So why second what I said?

Star Fox so good. I'm in the Darkice Mines right now, just
about to beat that big dino that was encased in ice. He
scared me so I quit to take a break rather than pee my pants
as he roars at me.

I think I'm going to buy an X-Box... but only for one
reason.

PERFECT

DARK

ZERO

My only complaint about Star Fox was that it was a bit on
the short side.. I didn't want it to end. I was also a
little disappointed that we don't get to see Mr.McCloud show
Krystal the true meaning of "foxhole love".. Ahh well.
I'm sure Perfect Dark Zero will be amazing.. Can't say I'm
too enthralled about the new style though. Guess we'll just
have to wait and see how it turns out.

Hitman 2 came out today.. Has anyone played it yet?

XBOX wins hands down for me...we're getting one at Xmas
def...

Just released a mod chip that doesn't require any soldering
etc....and once installed, you've basically got a great
little PC...for £150...

So many emulators....plus running it as 8gb Mp3 box, or a
DIVX movie player, DVD player...easy to stick on
homenetwork/broadband....

some guys already got Win2K running on it...

Check yesterdays Slashdot for a great thread all about
this...

http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/10/02/0135209&mode=.......

Also... http://www.xboxhacker.net/....

couple of interesting posts from slashdot...

"Xbox with a modchip is very interesting concept. Since you
can do almost anything with it. With 120G harddisk installed
you can have :

* Portable Divx player with ~150 movies
* MP3 Player with ~2000 'CD quality' albums
* Up to 60 Xbox games on the disk
* NES and SNES emulator with every game ever published
* N64 and MAME Emulator with hundreds or even over thousand
games
* Audio CD/VCD/SVCD player
* etc

Can you find any other console/mediabox/anything with these
features under 400$ that you can just plug in to TV or
amplifier? "...

"The good news, however, is that the world of emulation on
the XBox is unparalleled on any other console. Here is a
list of emulators ported to the XBox which work almost
flawlessly:

Stella (Atari 2600) [xb-power.com]
Gnuboy (Gameboy/Gameboy Color) [xb-power.com]
FCEUltra (NES) [xb-power.com]
SMSPlus (GameGear/Sega Master System> [xb-power.com]
HU-GO (Turbografx-16/PC-Engine) [xb-power.com]
NeoPop (NeoGeo Pocket Color) [xb-power.com]
DGen (Sega Genesis) [xb-power.com]
Bochs (x86) [xb-power.com]
Bochs emulates the PC architecture and has prebuilt packages
for running DOS 6.22, Windows 3.11, and Windows 95. Windows
runs too slowly in Bochs to do anything useful, but it runs
old DOS games very well.
Snes9x (SNES) [xb-power.com]
MAME (Arcade machines) [xb-power.com]
Daedalus (N64) [boob.co.uk]
Frodo (Commodore 64) (url?)
Handy (Atari Lynx) (url?)
GBA (Gameboy Advance) (url?)
Final Burn (Arcade/CPS2 esp) (url?)
Owning a modded XBox allows you to easily play just about
all of your console classics on the TV in your living room.
(No, not everyone has computers in every room of their house
yet. :P ) IMHO, the most fun I've had with my XBox so far is
playing games on all of the above emulators. Now that there
is a solderless modchip, just about anyone can enjoy them
also. "...

jarble. I'd actually have to open my Xbox up and meld
circuits together?

Apparently the mod is easy to do....but just like PS1,
there'll be computer shops who'll do it for ya...still early
days for Xbox modding but post-Xmas, it'll be as common as
PS1 modding was...

princo: you're right, I'm not a big gamer...used to program
assembler games on the Spectrum so I find it hard to play a
game without thinking about the code behind it so that kinda
spoils games a bit for me...

But the girlf loves em....so we're going 1/2s on one as a
Xmas pressie for each other...I'm more interested in the DVD
playing that anything really but it looks like an Xbox
coupled with Broadband is gonna make a great little
multi-function PC/set-top box....

it's gonna make a great on demand music/video system as
well....

Tremendous amount of fun but, again, too short! I found all
30 parts the 2nd time through... Supposedly there's a
sequel coming out sometime next year.

Ha ha, you could do all that with the DC months ago
(bitter)...

And you don't need a mod chip...
And you can get a cable to run code from a PC on it/copy
memory card data to a pc...
And it had a modem...
And a broadband adaptor...
And the most powerful force feedback of any console...

AND NOBODY BOUGHT ONE. FOOLS.

And I liked that system a lot. I really wish Sega was still
a hardware power in the industry. :-(

Look at crazy taxi 2 & rez on DC - A year earlier and
graphically superior to the PS2 verisons. I know people
group the DC with N64 & PSX, but I honestly feel it's far
more akin to PS2,GC & Xbox. I mean, look at DC DOA2 & Soul
Calibur graphics, so much better than many new PS2
games.

Ophecks: Did it actually get released in Canada? ;)
