Just got this email from my bro in Japan. I thought it was pretty funny... sorry 'bout the capitals but it's sent from a mobile... I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! I WAS VISITING A BUDDHIST TEMPLE IN A QUIET TOWN NOT FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE, AND WHO SHOULD I MEET ON THE WAY OUT? ONLY DAVE GRHOL FOR F*CK'S SAKE! I HAD TO GET A PHOTO, SO I MANAGED TO GO UP TO HIM IN THE GIFT SHOP- WHERE HE WAS CHECKING OUT THE TACKY BUDDHAS AND STUFF WITH SOME GUY IN DARK GLASSES (WHO SAID "HEY DAVE, CHECK THIS OUT", WHILE DRAWING HIS ATTENTION TO A WOODEN NINJA SWORD OR SOMETHING- THE "DAVE" BIT PROVING THAT IT WAS INFACT DAVE GROHL - OR HOWEVER THE HELL YOU SPELL IT). SO I WENT UP TO HIM AND SAID "DAVE...", HE WAS LIKE, "YEAH", AND HE ACTUALLY SEEMED INTERESTED! I EXPECTED HIM TO BE A BIT OF A WANKER ABOUT IT OR SOMETHING BUT HE WAS V.ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT MY PHONE/CAMERA AND LET ME TAKE THIS PHOTO. PROOF, NON-BELIEVERS!! ANYWAY, HE SAID HE WAS PLAYING TOMORROW NIGHT IN TOKYO AND EVEN SAID, "YEAH, YOU SHOULD COME DOWN MAN..." HAD I BEEN LESS NERVOUS I MAY HAVE SAID SOMETHING LIKE- "YEAH RIGHT, DAVE! I'VE GOT TO WORK TOMORROW EVENING, AND WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THE TICKETS? YOU?!" BUT ALAS, I DIDN'T. I WISH I HAD, AND I WISH I'D ASKED HIM A FEW MORE QUESTIONS AND HAD BEEN GENERALLY MORE ANNOYING AND PESTERED HIM UNTIL I'D SQUEEZED EVERY LAST DROP OF INFORMATION AND... ROCK-STARNESS FROM THE EXPERIENCE. INSTEAD I WAS JUST A COOL FAN. WE SPOKE BRIEFLY ABOUT HOW SWEET MY PHONE WAS AND I RECOMMENDED THAT HE CHECK OUT A TEMPLE I HAD VISITED WITH A V.TALL STANDING WOODEN BUDDHA INSIDE. HE WAS JUST LIKE, "YEAH, COOL!" SWEET. I WALKED BACK TO THE STATION GIGGLING AND FEELING REDICULOUS. WHAT THE FUCK WAS HE DOING THERE AND... WHAT!! IT HAS TOTALLY MADE WHAT WAS QUITE A MISERABLE WEEK INTO A FANTASTIC, KARMIC AND STAR STUDDED FESTIVAL OF HILARITY. SO, HERES THE PIC- CHECK OUT THE WAY HE IS SALUTING ME WITH HIS 'ROCK FIST' AND LOOK INTO HIS EYES- HE KNOWS I AM COOL. |

That's not fair - I live in Japan and I have never seen anybody famous in my local temple... :-( However - when I lived in London, I bumpted into RDJ not once but twice!! He was very friendly both times... :-) |

Alright there diablo? Your mate should've asked him about the gig. A friend of mine bumped into Dave Grohl in Denmark Street in London where they got chatting (they're both drummers), anyways Mr Grohl seems a really nice bloke and gave my mate three backstage passes to their legendary gig in the NME tent at Reading '95 where I was getting squashed to shit in the crowd and my mate was on the stage!! Then about a year later the same friend saw the Foo Fighters at Brixton and asked the bouncer to let them see Dave Grohl who at the time just happened to be walking by and recognised them , inviting them backstage for the aftershow party!! What a bloody nice bloke! |
