I'm going to have to dj some local parties and dances
soon.

It's not going to be like raves, more like for schools,
weddings, stuff like that.

I need advice about what equipment to get.

You need to have a smoke machine. No mobile disco is compete
without one. A Chest Wig too. Plus your patter has to
finished by shouting SHABBA! at the end.

two turntables and a mixer. any will do unless you plan to
scratch and do really creative blends. but if you're
starting out, don't worry about it. or if your music
collection is mostly cd's, pick up a couple CDJ's.. they're
surprisingly excellent.

getting the sound equipment is pretty easy. I don't know
about lighting and effects.

I was thinking about starting with a mixer/amp combo, 2 x
15" speakers, and 2 regular cd players.

Yes, shamefully, I am not a vinyl collector. I have all
cds.

I think for weddings and things your really going to need a
flashy system. The smoke machine I was joking about but you
will need some lights and things. It's whats expected. Well
it is here in England anyway.

yeah, it will cost a pretty penny (or is it quid?).

I'll have to rent some stuff until I can purchase everything
I need.

baby steps...

you're going to need some loud-ass speakers/amp if you are
going to be plating in school auditoriums and such..

i reccomend an absurd amount of wattage..

I will build up. I don't expect much more than 200 ppl for
now. In the spring it will be more.

...and when you are done plating, you will need some loud
speakers when you are ready to start playing.

I remember once DJing to a group of posh students at their
end of course dinner. I only brought hard house thinking
thats what students would be into... how wrong I was, all
they wanted to hear was top 40 hits... lame! My mate ran
home and got all his old Beatles, Madness, Rolling Stones,
Kinks etc and we rocked it anyway!

personally i like to have places cut my own music
(guitar, piano, bass) on to records... this way its more your
own style... but it can get expensive
