how would one go about getting music from records/tape into/onto your hard drive? LIke do you need a special sound card or can you just buy one of those lil USB adaptors?

Anything with analog audio in should do the trick. And you'll need some sort of software to save the stream to WAV/PCM/AIFF/whatever.

i do it all the time
just plug it in the back of your computer either in the mic or the aux
you can use sound forge or even wave studio to create a wav file making sure you have the levels right (i.e. no clipping)
then just encode to mp3

the mic slot thing does work, but its not in stereo...plus i don't have so much time to just fuck around getting the right VU levels.
isn't there like a lil unit out there with the 3 RCA imputs so you can just plug in the audio...etc.?

i hate when idiots put it through the mic port and distribute those mp3's... it's prolly even worse that no one with the vinyl who downloads it REALIZES the shitty job they'ee listening to and re-does it.

signal flow people. Are your retards?? putting a stereo source into a mono input?? So while you can be greatful to hear the tracks, you can be plenty pissed since your only hearing a phased portion of it.
No idear on how to clean the things though?

not really. i merely asked what kind of device you need to get the audio in and out...maybe if you understood the question, you wouldn't have posted that last remark.

asking a question, and then mocking their answers by calling people retards is a bit stupid, don't you think?

I was happy to see some decent answers here by the majority of people that responded...unfortunatly there were some answers that an elementary school child could have given me. To the child i would have been nice....but to a grown adult i call them a retard....
