It'd be cool if some group existed that gave people greater
motivation to experiment and make breakthroughs in music (or
videogames). They could do this by having a contest where
the most innovative submissions are given some sort of
commercial exposure. (I got this idea by reading about the
Independent Games Festival at gamasutra.com)

quotes: publishers are extremely risk-averse. Read: They
want more of what sold well last year. The result? Terminal
fear of innovation or originality."

"When I first heard of it, IGF wanted to be like Sundance
for independent films -- a way for unknowns to get some
attention, and an attempt to fix some of the 'same-old,
same-old' feeling among game enthusiasts forced to live with
the studios' crap." Heitner believes that in the end it will
be up to the industry to realize the potential of
independent products that are not mainstream or
cookie-cutters of last year's product.

I think most of America are too weak to get past their whole
innovativeness. we'll never ever see good experiments
beyond the underground...i swear! we'll be tortured to
death by the pop onslaught.
