(i mentioned this in another thread and felt like starting a topic about it)
Isn't this the sickest wierdest movie ever made? Im not talking about the blood and stuff. Im talking about the whole dissturbing aura of the movie. Even the after texts are scary. Who is leather face? he is like the oposite of most other murderers in movies , i mean he is not smart , he seems to be a mentaly handicaped inbread (sp?) laughin like a big baby while chasing that poor girl with his favorite toy.
And that "family dinner" scene is so god damn sick , when they give the hammer to the (alredy dead?) old man and he can hardly lift it.
And the girl? How can one person scream so much? Her constant screaming adds to the psychotic/panic feel of the movie very much.
I guess the message of the movie is don't sleep with your sister! hehe!
What are your thoughts?

It was pretty warped... a definite horror classic.
What really freaked me out is that most of it happens during the day.
The meathook scene was really disturbing... i actually only saw it for the frist time a month ago

I wonder what the audience in the 70s thought when it came? They must have been shocked!

That film really freaked me out too I think it's the element of torture in the film, like the repeated efforts of grandad with the lump mallet ... he's kind of banging her head but not hard enough
arrrrggghh

YEAH!!! thats the scene i was talking about! It really freaked me out!
Shit it was a long time ago i saw this movie. Who was in that sick family? Leatherface , the sicko who started cutting his hand in the car (also a freaky scene) and grandpa , who else?
No mother? , i imagine that family being born from rape victims , keept in the basement.

I guess it makes it a great horror movie because it frightens nearly everyone, in an original way

It is a very distrubing movie, its not like any other movies of that genre.
Sido you bring up some very good points, the film is messed up. My favourite bit is when the guy first goes into the house and Leather Face smashes his head with a Hammer and the guy is having a fit on the floor and he drags him inside and he closes the metal door really fast and then there is a really dark chord played by the soundtrack.
Atmospherical to the max

Yeah Leather Face always seems to show up from nowhere like a brutal demon .
Ha! my uncle is still convinced that this movie is a snuff. I don't blame him , he probably saw it when it came in the 70's.
He says "they couldn't do that kind of effects at the time" hehe!

there's something very blood curdling about death by lump mallet to the head, or being hung from a meat hook whilst still alive, watching your friend being chainsawed up
