I saw the repeat last night where eminem throse those papers at moby and that sock dog thing. Ive read a lot of your posts on it and i'll have to give moby more props cause id rather have him in the world than eminem. at least moby isn't angry at anyone or that...i mean who wants an angry music maker? you want that image to look up to? "yeah MY favorite artist is pissed at everyone" right on mate! >_<

I'd actually like to see Eminem do it to the guy from Burzum, that metal band. He went to jail or something for killing another band member.

I prefer eminem cuz he's controversial and that's normally a good thing. USA especially needed him. He is important to commen morality. Some of his texts are actually very relevant and he is good for the hole black n white issue.

from mobys journal:
THE VMA's 8/30/2002 - New York City so, i, uh, guess that i have to write something about the eminem/vma debacle.
hmmm....well, what should i write? the truth? the truth is that i honestly, in all sincerity, thought that the whole eminem thing was done in some semblance of humor until eminem called me a pussy (that was off camera) and then threatened to beat me up. ah well.
oh, by the way, i posted about a million photos of my vma night. go look at moby art and see my frivolous vma photos. they're frivolous.
more truth? i think that eminem is talented and interesting but i'm kind of stunned at the anger that he has for me seeing as i'd never met him up until last night.
and i love 'triumph the insult comic dog'. and i was more concerned for triumph's well-being.if eminem wants to pick on someone, fine, pick on me, but don't diss the dog-puppet. triumph the dog-puppet is my hero.
that's the sole reason that i went to the vma's. cos i love that little dog-puppet. and jimmy fallon's intro was utterly outstanding. and the strokes after party performance was wonderful. thanks, moby
you gotta give it to the man,hes got a good sense of humor...hehe...that sounds like something id say

What I meant by anger is NEEDLESS anger. Eminem's anger is uncalled for. He's just really dumb. There's controlled anger where you put all that into your MUSIC. Don't go around dissing people. Just focus on your music and leave people alone. Some of us have made fun of moby yes...but would we throw papers in his face or give him the finger? Probably not like Eminem did. That's just totally disrespectful I think. Eminem just needs to settle down. gleesh...

Moby is controversial in his own way imo-outwardly admitting his Christianity and Veganism for a start. Also, he isn't up his own arse at all. (I'm saying this even though I don't like a lot of music) Eminem, on the other hand, is offensive, rude, and like many have said, a puppet....he'll crash and burn soon, once everyone gets bored of the controversy....hopefully.
Imagine Autechre or Orbital prancing about and being "controversial"....hehe.

uh, when's the last time you saw moby on tv talking about veganism or christianity? or even human rights and liberal politics? he's a sellout. all he'll talk about in the media is trivial topics now. he does it to be "cute", which gains fans. well, he lost one in me when he disavowed all the beliefs and ideals he used to champion. at least eminem uses his spotlight to raise important topics and create an open dialogue among people.

However, that doesn't make Eminem's offensive actions any better imo.

cs: moby started it, in case you're curious. he made some sallacious, exaggerated, and flat-out untrue claims such as eminem's lyrics contain anti-semitism (huh?????) and racism (and i don't think moby meant against "other white trash" either).

well i urge you to watch any tv interview with moby since 2000. he won't argue for his beliefs; when he's questioned about them he'll give a short answer. but he has in fact disavowed them in two ways besides not talking about them (which is despicable of him considering he finally has people's attention):
1. he supported gore over ralph nader despite the fact that moby's politics and beliefs alligned 99% with nader and only about 50% with gore (who is pro-death penalty and has a pretty poor environmental record in comparison to ralph nader's citizen group platforms). he even made childish sneering remarks about nader in the media which undermines everything moby claimed to believe in.
2. one of rolling stone magazine's "quotes of the month" column had a quote from moby basically saying that he used to write about all kinds of crazy beliefs and that he was a little misguided.
as for eminem, i think you're taking his lyrics a little too literally.

that's their problem then, not the artist's. i agree that, to an extent, artists with large fanbases should take responsibility with their lyrics, but they shouldn't bow down to their critics. in the end, eminem does what he wants to do, which is to provoke you into thinking about things you probably don't want to think about.

literally and seriously do not mean the same thing. literally means what he's saying is sincere and not at all figurative.
here's how i perceive eminem: his lyrics, like a lot of hip-hop lyrics, are written "in character." firstly, his style of songwriting is to use vivid exaggeration. that's how he always shoots his mouth off. secondly, he raises subjects in order to get people to think about them. but instead of saying "what about gays, what do you think it'd be like to be a homosexual?" he takes the GUISE of a homophobe and says something mean in order to provoke your response. he's blunt about it, in other words. don't you see that it's just a way to get people thinking? in class, the best way to teach is to use examples and experiments. you can see that in eminem's lyrics. in real life he has little respect for the FLOOZIES (loose women/groupies/trailer trash) that flock around him, but he's not a misogynist cos he loves his daughter to death. in real life he really does have problems with his mom. his lyrics are all based on his experiences in life and observations in society. that's my take on eminem.

I think provoking someone isn't a way to get people to think.
people just get angry and that shuts off all open-minded thinking.

when people get offended they talk about it with other people. that's what i mean by open discussion. eminem obviously doesn't mind being a scape goat so long as he gets people, especially puritanical americans, talking about "taboo" subjects (that eminem finds interesting).

i find that that is not often the case. everyone who's heard eminem (and many who've just heard OF him) discuss him, basically. not everyone is anal retentive or prudish. one person who is taken back by the lyrics could raise the subject with another person who understands what eminem is trying to do and a discussion, like this one, occurs.

I was gonna ignore this one coz i'm kinda bored of it but he's my 2p anyway...
Eminem's albums grab you by the balls, they contain amazing lyricism and bring up some dark topics which 99.9% of artists would never address, also he's funny as hell! He raises issues, goes off the rails sometimes and generally amazes and ENTERTAINS with every release.
Moby on the other hand... well I guess it's good music to shop to. In Gap.
