hiya guys...i'm out of the circuit a bit cos of the lack of job etc but.......i had to write about Manitoba and Fourtet, live ..................
the setting: Guiness Hop Store, Dublin - a Willy Wonka type arts venue with glass elevators, 5 floors, lots of cold Guniness, funky audio visual in stallations etc
the gig: WONKY2...a 2 day event of live electronica and dj's and some indie stuff for the shear hell of it...........only 12euro (thats CHEAP my British shums!)
The noise: Manitoba, a Canadian guy i've heard snippets of before, played some real sweet breakbeaty soundscapes..........check him out people
FOURTET fucking blew the rest away with 1 hour of crazy fast .....defo braindance, reworking his "Pause" vibe with added acceleration and intensity Much use of spainish guitar samples but with those lovely AFX/>[] non-linear breaks..........just pure class really. You gotta check Fourtet out.......it's chilled n happy but it DOES get the neurons boogying.

i heard radiohead fans this summer in spain and portugal didn't care for four tet's warmup performance at all. it's funny, most radiohead concert goers tend to hate the opening acts, whether it's clinic, anti-pop consortium, dj shadow, kid koala, or handsome boy modeling school - all amazing artists who they're priveledged to see. at best the audience silently waits for the set to end; at worst - and this is most often the case - they roll their eyes, chat with friends, and heckle the band. really, really rude and shows how classy they're NOT. and how little taste in music they have. i used to like radiohead fans cos i felt i had something in common with them, but most of them are just bandwagon jumpers who don't really like non-mainstream music. such a shame.
