i reread this today in one sitting. its actually very
poignant, moving tale of a man battling himself. anyone here
read it?
still waiting for a decent movie adaptation though.

richard matheson. i'm surprised no one on here has read it,
much less heard of it.

Didn't they turn it into The Omega Man with Charlton Heston?

I have read it. It's legendary in horror circles, but I
didn't take to it that much. The mix of science fiction and
horror was good enough but I wasn't really drawn into it.
6/10

i see it as being less a sci fi or horror novel and more
about the human condition. its an interesting scenario, and
i like how it approaches vampirism in a purely scientific
way.

Best thing I've ever read by Matheson was a short story
called Mad House about a guy who was slowly destroying his
life with outbursts of anger, which were being absorbed by
his surroundings. His descriptions of helplessly watching
yourself doing idiotic things out of anger, then being full
of remorse you cannot act on and a desire for forgiveness
you cannot ask for...ack, I was a changed man after reading
that. Or maybe I'm just projecting all that into the story
because I am one sick little fleshweasel.

I used to have crazy fucking outbursts like that with my
girlfriend when I was quitting smoking, then I'd get all
weird and quiet and lie under furniture. Reading that story
informed me that I should not be such a dick.
