The Beatles: do they suck?

The Great Arbitrator on 2001-08-14 22:45 [#00021829]

i mean they're good and all. but let's face it, the beatles
are the enemy.

what do yo uthink?

I reckon you should really look at it in context. Having
said that I didn't exactly appreciate George Harrisons
comments earlier in the year saying that drum machines are
like the plague.

Back in their day, (i'm talking about the latter stuff -
Revolver and on) was pretty good for mainstream stuff. Like,
Tomorrow Never Knows .. I reckon is still a fucken cool
tune. There's a lot of cheesy crap an all that .. but I try
to see through that ..

agreed lasit, once lennon took hold (mcCartney wrote most of
the early klovey dovey pop songs), their political message
was extremely well intertwined with the songs...makin hadden
messages and all...yes i love the beatles...remember get
back? i loved that song, quite funky

Paul McCartney is an appauling cunt. Lennon had more talent
in one of his pubic hairs than McCartney had altogether. As
the Super Furry Animals rightly pointed out, McCartney is
only good at chewing vegetables.

The Beatles are good.
The Rolling Stones are better.

That's all the criticism I can muster for one day.

ahh, the old lennon vs. that other idiot argeument.... yes
yes, lennon was a fine man, and i am sad to have been born
the year of his murder....

but besides all that, if i had not been raised on such
greats as the beatles, talking heads, david bowie, brian
eno, B-52s, the smiths, peter gabrial, and the like, i do
not think i would like the music i like today! i have my
wonderful, artsie farstie,
wearing-black-all-the-time-for-the-sake-of-art, kinda yuppy
parents to thank (who now live in Russia, bless their wittle
hearts).... and i have to add, my rents (short for
parents...) love such greats as radiohead, mouse on mars,
and chibo matto because of me.... think how crazy it would
be if your 45 year old mother was singing "We are the
dollars and cents and the pounds and pents and the mock and
the yen...." while driving her SUV with your two little bros
singing along in the back? i tell you, it would be crazy.

but i think the only reason they are into my music, is
becasue they liked bands like the beatles when they were
younger and child free, and then when they HAD kids, they
did not switch to jimmi buffet, no no my friends, they kept
listening to bowie, and later jane's addiction even to this
day....

i like the beatles, they don't suck.
my fingers hurt now.........

My mum has shit taste in music but my dad likes SFA, Beta
Band, Eels, Radiohead (not the new stuff) and Badly Drawn
Boy because of me. He's not very open-minded, though... if I
were to make him listen to IDM he'd just hate it.

thanksomuch from over there on 2001-08-15 00:29 [#00021856]

see geo, my rents, having enjoyed such music as Brian Eno's
"Very Very Hungry", are a little more open minded to Aphex
and such.. my mom loves Windowlicker.. but then again, she
IS crazy.

thanksomuch, you have awesome parents!

Is your mum like Ned Flanders' mum?

I bought Beatles - One album...

I liked every song on it.

Anyone who likes music for anything other then the music
itself is an ass.

thanksomuch from over there on 2001-08-15 03:44 [#00021918]

ross, they are ok.. they are still parents, you know....
good damn thing i live on my own, or i'd have to kill
them....

geo, i am not very familiar with the simpsons, but my never
ending vat of knowlege (my room mate and dear friend) tells
me that she was a beat nick, who did not believe in
discipline.. well, you see they were not beat nicks, and
they believe strongly in dicipline.. and they are even...
dare i say(!?).. BORN AGIAN CHRISTIANS!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH! but
they still know how to have a good time, and like gay
people.

the beatles are quite decent and i much more enjoyed
Lennon's songs than McCartney's.

By the way i am not impressed at all by Ringo's solo stuff.

But just look at the Sgt. Pepper's album -- they used a bit
of sampling and audio trickery on it. audio experimentation.

like the samples in "Yellow Submarine" of the water and the
crowded bar and the sub etc..

and the weird kilotone noises at the end of the last song
and the weird ass voices clips looping ad infinitum.

And on the White Album -- REVOLUTION 9 is a total fucking
electronic chaos trip track -- nothing but pure sampling
madness for about 7 minutes.

The Beatles were quite good after they stopped doing the "we
all dress alike and look alike" bullshit.

George Harrison is not that great either. Didn't he get sued
for stealing someone's song?

Never heard R9 but Tomorrow Never Knows still sounds good
and... groundbreaking... 35 years on.

thanksomuch from over there on 2001-08-15 03:58 [#00021930]

"number nine... number nine.. number nine.."i do not
recomend listening to that "song" will heavly under the
influence of any drug..... it could make one go quite
nutty....

leftrightronic on 2001-08-15 04:07 [#00021932]

i really like that song rocky racoon, im pretty sure its off
the white album..
and im not too keen on most beatles work, but the one where
the lyrics go something along the lines of "i read the news
today, oh boy.."

hmm

thanksomuch from over there on 2001-08-15 04:08 [#00021934]

leftrighttonic..... ha ha.. cute.

revolver on 2001-08-15 04:33 [#00021942]

The Beatles are the single greatest achievement of all of
humanity, not just music. Actually, I read a review of
Tomorrow Never Knows, and the guy reviewing mentioned how it
was the roots of modern techno and trance, like Aphex Twin.
I wouldn't be a RDJ fan now if I didn't like the Beatles and
didn't read that review. If Lennon was alive and 24 right
now with this technology, they'd be so good, it would be
TERRIFYING.

Anyone seen the video Magical Mystery Tour ... it's fucken
insane - has moments of potential (like the monty python
like spagetti scene with John).

PearlsGirrl on 2001-08-15 07:23 [#00021971]

i think the greatest thing about the Beatles is not
necessarily their songs and music, but more the way they
revolutionized music during that time. i mean, even if you
dont like their music (which i completely do), youve got to
appreciate that.

Beach Style Steve on 2001-08-15 07:24 [#00021972]

I hate the Beatles; The question always asked is: Are you a
Beatles or an Elvis man? I'm a Beach Boy.....

The Mark and the Yen on 2001-08-15 10:37 [#00022027]

Lennon was a cunt. Any Beatles fan knows this. But he was
also a musical pioneer.

The Mark and the Yen on 2001-08-15 10:46 [#00022029]

And I absolutely loathe Yoko Ono. Not for any part she may
have played in breaking up the Beatles, but for the way she
has, since his death, manipulated anything Lennon ever did
to her own ends

Mescaline on 2001-08-15 10:58 [#00022033]

Beatles music - is tha fucking shit, u can see it at first
blush.
Lennon and others were the bananas trucks, i hate them said
my ass!
