I think "life-changing" and "Mind Bending" aren't
necessarily the same thing, but they do occasionally
overlap.

I tried to read some Tom Clancy, under the context that the
American Public have him for breakfast...that stuff is
scary!!!

Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk is really interesting and fun.
Not really life changing but still a great read

Sounds like you're right there with the Ingenuity Gap.

Some Psychological/Philosophical candy worth nibbling at is
"The Mind's I", a collection of essays and short works
editted by Douglas Hofstadter and Daniel Dennett. I can pick
it up and read for 15 minutes, finish a short piece, and
have my brain bouncing for weeks after!

I would also recommend Douglas Rushkoff..but the idiot is so
topical that each passing years reneders his text
obsolete..plus he's also a bit of a hypocrite and a total
sell out...but he had some interesting views..see's himself
as a modern day McLuhan..
his book Cyberia is all there at

http://www.textz.com (thank you phiz)

I downloaded it last night..

also try Media Virus

Eco is brilliant!!! I've tried to pick up other esoteric
"conspiracy" bits like the illuminati (sp?) triolgy, but got
distracted.

You should try a few of the Robertson Davies Trilogies. Very
Jungian, very well constructed! (90% of Canadian had to read
it in school, though.

Ok .. you probably got enough good suggestions already -

but if you're going to check out textz.com I highly
recommend d/l and reading the article "Radical Thought" by
Jean Baudrillard . Not exactly a book, 8 pages or so in
ascii.

can :)
