artificial intelligence V minority report

Saw both this week;
Minority Report first, which is pretty slick early on ,
before sliding downhill to a Hollywood ending . Overall
worth watching though.

AI on the other hand had me despising all the characters
early on, there were NO twists and turns, I had NO interest
in what happened to the kid, and none of it was at all
amusing. Or scary. In the end it turned to COMPLETE
bollocks, which actually caused me and my sister to cave in
to HYsTerical Laughter as we watched the last of it on fast
forward. It is THAT lame.

AI seriously is the crappiest film I've seen for years.
Spielberg is a CUNT. Jaws was good , but then it was great
material from a great book.
BAH !!!

should have hired Man Bites Dog again..

Jaws was bollocks..
AI I liked because it's like Spielberg battling the spectre
of Kubrick..no matter how he tried to Sugarcoat and honey
dewed and soft focus the material,,the stuff in the first
half is downright perverse...the boys obsession with his
mother is the most explicit Oedeipal fixation ever shown in
a Hollywood film..him springing up on her everywhere not to
mention in the toilet...is that lovable sleazy ole bastard
(Kubrick's) last laugh beyond the grave...

Spielberg should be told "No more shooting Stevie " and
should be shot himself. AI is unadulterated wank; the
Oedeipal thing probably way over Spielbergs head

yes it is way over his head..it's embedded so well into the
original script/ short story he cant help but show
it..that's where the fun lies

Howard the Duck vs AI

AI wins

Spielberg beats Lucas ? wow.

Jurassic park
v
star wars

Its like a vote over whether you'd rather watch your own
shit decompose or be hung up by one ankle for two hours.
.....Except those two things were never really feted by the
sycophantic film industry.. (not publicly anyhows :)

I thought that Minority Report was great, but I agree that
the ending is a bit shitty.

Artificial Intelligence isn't as bad as people say it is,
but it's good for a Speilberg film. It has all the usual
Spielberg trademarks, flashy visuals, happy ending. Pretty
good family film.

Saving private Ryan was so bad I actually felt like I WANTED
to be there getting shot at myself.

If I was ; I would have pistol-whipped Hanks in a unique
form of "friendly fire"

Hanks is a fuck face
The film bored the shit out of me
No political or social message
No deeper nuances
No twists and turns
No imagination

Most 'factual' accounts turned into Hollywood blockbusters
leave me wishing they'd just made a damn good documentary
about it instead .

But yes, I've always presumed my ass probably tasted bad .

i agree. how the hell could anyone call that bad?
anyway, minority report was much better, despite the bad
ending. atleast it didn't have three like AI

Did you miss the big social message at the beginning?

offline smokehammer from Saigon (Vietnam) on 2002-08-04 22:24 [#00336786]

It appears I missed a meeting somewhere.. :D

Spielberg "messages" end up having a counter-productive
effect on me. I always want the hero in his films to die ;
Except for Jaws, who does die. And then once he's dead you
want him to stay dead. But no; he comes back !

What message in SPR ? "War is bad" ? I missed it, pray
tell.....

I am with smokehammer...
Spielberg on principle is a schmuck..
most war movies are utter bollocks
Hollywood filmakers are masters at reinventing histroy and
taking credit for a lot of the things that they did
accomplish

I would say the message was a little deeper than that. And
I'm not a big Spielberg fan, so I'm not saying it just to
kiss his bum...

bravo to flea ;

I'm sure you'd agree that there are a few great war films ;
mainly ones where the main angle is parallel to consensus ;
eg combat drug testing in 'Jacobs ladder' or the
institutionalised military de-humanising techniques in
"full metal jacket".

But yeah , SPR, and most other war garbage (pearl harbour ,
and so on) does re-invent history in a grotesquely devisive
way that pumps audiences full of false sentiments. Navy
Seals anyone ? ;D

please ninja dude ... what was the message in SPR ? can you
sum it up for me ? I've genuinely forgotten it , I would
appreciate a quick summary of the beginning you descibe
which I may have missed

a great war movie is "no mans land"

it seems to be pretty damn realistic to me

No need to be sarcastic. I agree with you about the rest of
the film - it's junk. Watch the beginning again and see if
you see any philosophy coming through.

Saving Private Ryan may be soaked in a bit of Spielbergian
sap and whatnot, but damn, that movie looks and sounds so
much better than anything else... in a shallow way, that
ALONE makes it great, FUCK it looks good. You feel like
you're there with them, so brilliantly filmed, and the
washed out color is sublime, yummy gummy!

And where's the rewritten history in that movie? What
exactly did Mr. Bearded Jew Director do to fuck it up ever
so horridly?

ninja dude> I'm not being sarcastic.

I genuinely remember the opening scene being the troops on a
landing craft... bieng sick etc... but I may have missed a
whole chunk before then, and if so, I'm sure you could be
right that it was a good message . But I'm not watching it
again to find out.

+eg combat drug testing in 'Jacobs ladder'+

wow that's one of my all time favourite movies..isnt it
uncannily like the Afghan (heh)veterans out massacaring and
killing their families in Texas right now
+ or the
institutionalised military de-humanising techniques in
"full metal jacket". +

yep and i will add Apocalypse Now to the list..that's all
the War Movies that ever mattered..to me atleast

WTF this is a story I wanna see , any links bro' ?

Yeah Apocalypse is great, I'm off to see the real Vietnam
in the New Year...

''And where's the rewritten history in that movie? What
exactly did Mr. Bearded Jew Director do to fuck it up ever

Bah, I KNEW nobody was going to tackle that question. War
veterans THEMSELVES lauded the action sequences for their
accuracy and realism. And those fuckers were THERE, I think
they'd know. The movie doesn't try to be too too deep...
just savage killfests, depicts them perfectly.

Holy Fuck !

Must have been so pleased to see their wives again; they
celebrated Afghani style (guns in the air) only for a series
of unfortunately placed ceilings and walls to deflect the
bullets into their wives' chests.

I guess thats the official 'tragic accident' line , and I
believe it :D

AI what a bomb...
spielburg trying to hard to be kubrick.
gives stanley a bad name.

should have left it alone.

Minority Report on the other hand took me by surprise...
alot of adult themes for a spielburg film.

good to see him taking a new route with film.

ai - *
minority - ****
