Anyone like these guys? I bought The Last Broadcast today,
and I've listened to it through once... but Words, and There
Goes the Fear are fantastic right off...

I've got Lost Souls, not got the Last Broadcast yet.... lost
souls is such a nice album, cedar room is probably the best
track on it - maybe.

its brit-pop, but they have a lot of experimental stuff in
there. its comparable to radiohead at times.

i wudnt say they were like radiohead.

Download a couple of their tracks...

"Man who told everything" + "Cedar Room" are my
recommendations

their material is not very electronic.
it has the same sort of mood as the early radiohead stuff
did.
they are sort of like coldplay too.
its decent stuff, very casual listener friendly.

"the sea song" (?) first cd..

A friend of mine bought a CD by them. I don't remember which
one it was, but I do know that one of the singles from it
had a video that was played on MTV a few times.

I only liked the instrumentals on it, and that Sub Sub shit
they were doing before Doves is fucking horrid.

The Last Broadcast is the best rock-type album of the year!
They are quite experimental, it's refreshing to see such an
album get to No. 1 over here. Lost Souls isn't so good. The
Last Broadcast really surprised me. A lot of people are
saying it's the best rock album since OK Computer, but I
think it's _better_ than OK Computer.
A bit like Doves' Kid A [except not really as good].

I bought it when it came out, listened to it a few times, but
I find it a little dull-apart from a couple of outstanding
tracks.Dont know what the fuss is all about, they arn`t as
good as everyone makes out.

doves are great, they are far more talented than most of the
british (for want of a better word) 'indie-pop'

i have their 1st album and plan to buy their new album

one thing i like about them is they take their b-sides
seriously, and there's plenty of them

great stuff :)

Better than OK Computer? wwwha, i really love that song
satellites though..the gospel-ish ness is much like recent
spiritualized..i think i prefer the more sad underlinings of
their earlier work though

it's not close to Ok Computer, sorry... it's quite good, but
come on, Ok Computer is imo the best rock album ever (just
my opinion on that matter), and is one of the best ever
without question...

offline doctorvee from Kirkcaldy (United Kingdom) on 2002-07-12 22:47 [#00307611]

Well, I always found OK Computer overrated. There are a few
excellent tracks on it, but any album with a song as drastic
as Let Down just isn't one of the greatest records of all
time as VH1 and NME oh-so-often tell us.

offline Ross from Canada on 2002-07-12 22:50 [#00307617]
Points: 366 Status: Lurker

doctorvee, what do you mean about let down being drastic? i
really dig that song, especially the lines "one day i am
going to grow wings..a chemical reaction, hysterical and
useless.."

offline doctorvee from Kirkcaldy (United Kingdom) on 2002-07-12 22:51 [#00307620]
Points: 279 Status: Lurker

I should make clear that I actually really like OK Computer,
it's probably in my top 20. But Kid A, Amnesiac and The Last
Broadcast are all better, in my opinion...

I take pretty much the same stance on The Bends. Planet
Telex and The Bends are genius songs, but as an album, The
Bends sort of stumbles all over the place, and it isn't
really an album - just twelve tracks. Half of them
excellent, half dire.

Let Down is one of my favorites from the album...

Ross:
I never really liked Let Down. I think it's a bit cheesy
really. I probably wouldn't mind if it wasn't for those
AWFUL bleeps at the end. I mean, this is Radiohead, not
bloody Blake's 7.

I do like the [acoustic?] guitar solo in it, if you could
call it a guitar solo. You'll probably know what I mean...

..the fear is pretty good, an im not minding the new single
- pounding i think its called. not bad for an indie band. im
not minding idlewild as well at the moment.

offline Ross from Canada on 2002-07-12 23:13 [#00307644]

Ah, the bleeps :)
heh, what are your favorite radiohead songs in general? mine
would have to be: climbing up the walls, no surprises,
everything in its right place, pyramid song, you and whose
army?, karma police, paranoid android..fuck, there's too
many to list!

i gotta go out for the moment, i'll be back later, have a
good one everybody

heh, actually those bleeps are one of my favorite things
about that song... and of the album in general too... I
think it's great... :)

ah, good selections..I'm with you on the kid a and amnesiac
being great albums..i prefer the way they're heading now to
the progression in their early stuff, though i love most of
that stuff as well..
