I want to get in to AE

I really want to listen to AE but they just don't do it for
me. What i need is a track by Autechre that i a bit more
mainstream (like come to daddy was for afx) so i can enjoy
them. And then slowly start listening to to this music and
what you all are talking about.

What track should I check out first?

I was the same way... I made the mistake of listening to
CONFIELD first... eep. I kind of forced myself to listen to
them, and I grew to love them. Now nothing compares to
them...

Try Rae or Arch Carrier from LP5.

Good choices Ophecks.

I would go with Silverside off Amber (what?) or zeiss
contarex from EP7 to get your groove on.

Second Bad Vilbel kind of sucks, though.

Try Bike, Flutter, Cipater, Vose In, Corc, Krib... hell, I
could go on forever!

Confeld for me it's their least complicated cd yet...It's
more rythmic,at leasr for me...But I don't like it too
much,like better their experimental sounds,just can't get
pass their Coachella 1999 MusicFest performance, was the best
live IDM/experimental music I've ever heard...........:)

Here's my 2 cents but Autechre are my fav.:

Maphive 6.1 from EP7

Bike from Incunabula -- most melodic and easily accessable

Draun Quarter from Envane

Vltermx21 from Garbage -- amazing ambient track

LP5 is really fantastic!!! Try Corc man, and definitely
Rae... Acroyear2 is another great one... as is Arch
Carrier...

Clipper, Leterel, C/pach, Eutow, and Rsdio from Tri Repetae
are great

Cipater, Tewe, Cichli, Nuane are each fantastic from
Chiastic Slide

Kalpol Intro, Bike, Eggshell, and 444 are each excellent
from Incunabula...

Also, Vletrmx21, Second Scepe are very good!!!

how can you actually recommend songs by autechre? each song
could be from a different genre type of music.

it really makes no sense to try to find a track that you
will like from autechre. just try a bunch and you will
eventually find something you like, because they are all
different. every single one of them.

wrong, each album varies in genre.
there are many similiar tracks on each album

youre kind of right about this. but sometimes, it's better
to have suggestions when you have no idea where to look
first.

what i'd suggest is to try listening to random tracks, but
be sure that you get one from avery album to get a good idea
of autechre's complete work.

offline Ophecks from Nova Scotia (Canada) on 2002-06-07 23:50 [#00255216]

I get into electronic artists by downloading a bunch of
random recomendations, regardless of album, then if I like
what I've heard, I get more in depth and listen to the
albums individually, RELIGIOUSLY.

And I think every album has a similar feel throughout... a
lot of the EP7 tracks sound like they couldn't be anywhere
but EP7... likewise for Tri Repetae. Some songs just sound
really alike, not different genres AT ALL. But pick up a
different album, and that's where you get a new sound.

Yeesland and Krib from Cichlisuite, and don't forget The Egg
, one of their greatest tracks, then maybe Zeiss Contarex
from EP7

i startet with tri repetae but except from eutow i still do
not like it much.
you have got so much to look forward to, i'd so much like to
discover confield a second time

Rae is one of Autechres best, if not THE best song... It's
amazing!!! I had heard it before, but the MP3 didn't do it
justice... there is so much emotion in this song it's not
funny!!! Corc is amazing as well!!!

it's hardly ever mentioned but Gelk is sooo emotional i
could cry if i didn't have to jump around all the time. it's
so amazing how they put all the sadness between the clicks

it is. but it stands alone on the release, since the other
tracks are Gaekwad which is a bit strange (in a good way)
and 19 Headaches which definitly has the correct title.

it's a bit, hmm, incoherent, but gelk is so great!!

i guess there can be a 'recurring theme' through the
albums. i hadn't thought of it that way -- i was comparing 2
tracks to an album like Autriche and Bronchus, or Acroyear2
to Corc.

ep5 and ep7 are definitely their 2-most varied albums.

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2002-06-08 17:53 [#00255899]
Points: 16280 Status: Lurker | Followup to cygnus: #00255896

but still, I find that even though the tracks on their
albums may differ, there is still a common underlying thread
to it... I dunno, I just see it... even between tracks as
different as Acroyear2, and Corc, I still hear something
similar...

i agree 150% -- but to a person who doesn't yet understand
autechre they probably would think, "what? could you have
someone given me a data cd?" - or if you burned them a cd
with these tracks in this order ->

1. slip
2. netlon sentinel
3. clipper
4. gantz graf

would they really think they were listening to the same
group throughout the album? autechre evolves with each
release and i think that's hard for fans coming in from more
mainstream sounding material. there's nothing wrong with
that.

they do evolve pretty fast, i wonder what direction they'll
take. after confield i didn't expect them to go any further
into 'hard', but they did, and for me gantz graf is great,
the tracks flow perfectly now although it takes some time to
get into it. i do hope now they get even harder; there isn't
anything that can be compared to them, methinks.

i actually think they're going to be doing tons more visual
stuff from now on. they've embraced DVD tech now and i'm
sure they'll use it to their advantage as fully as
possible.
