those aren't the real words. anyway, he DOES call moby old and says he doesn't know what people want to listen to, and yes (sigh) he does say "nobody listens to techno." however, eminem does know a bit about music - he produced half the tracks on his new album and his d12 group's album, and a handful on his second solo album. so it's an ignorant comment to make about "techno" (tho if you want to be specific about the term, techno does blow in my opinion), but moby had it coming. moby thinks he's free to comment on whoever and whatever he wants in the media and on his web site and everyone has to just accept his opinion. moby always singles eminem out as a rapper, as if no other emcee has ever used the word "fag" or said anything misogynistic before. moby isn't ignorant about hip-hop either; check the schooly d sample on "bodyrock" and some of his live sets (he does spin some hip-hop records). not to mention the sucky track he did with mystikal on the blade 2 soundtrack. so moby is being hypocritical by singling eminem out, therefore he totally had it coming to him and i think he got off light, if anything. |

i think eminem is an excellent lyricist, and anyone who listens to hip-hop can't deny his skills. i'm not saying he's the best; i could rattle off a dozen or two emcees i like better at the drop of a dime. regardless, i still really love his shit and i look forward to his new album (though i HIGHLY doubt it'll be anywhere near the quality of the album in my avatar). "without me" is kind of a lackluster effort for him, but the first single from each album has always been the most commercial one on the album. it's kind of a tradition to put our a mainstream song that'll get everyone's attention, that way they can get the album and hear the more subversive shit. em and dr. dre (aftermath's ceo) are smart. i heard a b-side to "without me" and it was pretty hardcore. dre attacks jermaine dupri for next to no reason at all. |
