Twice this afternoon there has been a really good
downpour, both time I've tried to sample it.

The first time I didn't get my mic in in time (it didn't
work in the end anyway...)

The second time I tried using another mike and didn't mange
to get it in time. Grrr!

Thats too bad man. If you have an umbrella you could always
put the mic under that and sample the raindrops hitting the
umbrella?

So your mic doesn't get ruined. It sounded like yours did
in your post...

Nope, it's just one mic doesn't work (I just go it back from
a friend and hadn't tested it since).

I'm borrowing a MD and my GF's mic tommorow so I'll
hopefully manage to sample some soon :)

I think the umbrella idea is nice. You should try it out :)

And walk around and try to pick up your shoes hitting dirt,
rocks, gravel, wood, etc. :)

I will, it'll sound like rain on a tent (one of my
favourites sounds).

I'm going to have to get the sounds of water running down
drains too.

My best friend had such a hard time trying to get a decent
rain sample. He doesn't have very good euipment though - a
cardioid mike w/ a 4 track. It's a hard sound to record for
some reason.
