Don’t donate any extra funds to our artist pages. Warp
takes that money. Feel free to file a lawsuit. Tah!

i'm afraid i don't understand. i thought bandcamp was for
buying albums? it's not gofundme?

i suppose it'd make sense that i've entirely missed that
bandcamp supports donations. which warp just pockets.

you know what? no one held a gun to your head and made you
sign to warp. you should have read the fine print. it could
be worse, really -- you could be an indie game developer
whose adultSwim-published game is about to get demonetized
in order to help Warner Brothers save money on taxes

next you'll be complaining that taylor swift gets the whole
spotify pool for re-recorded versions of songs people have
already bought.

i'd like to hear new squarepusher, but i really shouldn't
buy anything at the moment. i can't say "can't" because it's
more technically "i could buy something, but then the
payment to the phone company won't go through

i could certainly pirate it. i'm actually quite bored of
buying downloads -- "no, what i really want is the vinyl," i
think. i pause and think some more

"right, i threw my turntable in the dumpster when my
landlady sold the place out from under me mid-lease [because
the jewish temple next door offered her BUUKUU BUX, merci]"
and i already bought plenty of vinyl i can't listen to when
finances were better

tim sweeny sends all the bandcramp money to china anyways

skimming google news today i say something like "MARK
WAHLBERG LAUNCHES TIKTOK PRAYER APP"

and shut the fuck up. there are far worse things than warp

unless i see a dramatic uptick in people arguing about
whether or not DOZYTROME is better than be up a hello. i
think i'll just renew some domain names. and pay my fone
bill. people donated money to you and warp simply kept it?
that's curious

i think i'll just renew some domain names

wicked apropos really

discordogs expires in a week or two. i might have the cash.
probably. i paid $5 for a "NANO" server when i noticed it
was expiring soon -- i just deleted all my good servers;
let's buy a really crappy one and make the stupidest 2003
website ever

...and gosh, this is actually kind of fun. it's kind of come
full circle

did you know? i used to rush through my homework fast as i
could so i could PROGRAM COMPUTERS

...and then i'm a senior in college; comp sci. on top of my
courseload i'm hacking PHP in the school IT dept. summer and
winter breaks i already have an arguably "real" C++ job

and -- oh, shit. programming is the homework now. so then i
begin rushing through that to PIRATE NEW VST PLUGINS. no,
wait, that's starting to feel too much like programming. i
need a room full of warm humming physical synths, 30 hour
days, and a lot of psychedelics

now i am at a place where i think: "ohhh, this track could
be SICK"

"...but, christ, there's so much to take care of. i have six
good hours before i get sleepy and UGH there's no way about
it i have to leave the gear on and sink tomorrow into this
track too"

i still write music but i've begun simply switching the gear
off when i hit that point, rather than actually see it
through. ugh, annoying, that's a lot of work

i'd rather fuck with this $5 server. i start apache and it's
out of ram; can this turd even handle mariadb on top of
that? OH! I KNOW! i'll just use sqlite and flat files and
unix fifo pipes and rape the cloudhost's SSDs! because
they've missed finding a way to charge me overages for that

i think hyperflake has a good similar idea with lannerblog
spoticles, but programming is more fun than writing

is planet mu bankrupt yet?

i'm gone from twitter for years now, but it was p. good in
2020 or 2021 or something when [someone with name
recognition that i'd never heard of] hosts these live
pandemic album listening sessions, and because [recognizable
name] the actual artists began showing up to some of them.

leftfield was a good one, but absolute tops was tom chemical
showing up and saying things like "elektrobank started off
as a remix bjork rejected," and he said she replied, "'i
will never have a slap bass sound on my record'"

...but then casually he's saying "yeaaaahhh this sound, i
sampled the VCS3 into the E-MU and then i was just spamming
the crap out of it with sample startpoint messages, it was
crazy, i had it going backwards and forwards and..."

and i promptly lose my shit because i cannot tell you how
many hours i spent on the train [leading up to the pandemic]
trying to figure this exact noise out and here he is
just speaking about it off the cuff.

every guess i had was wrong. i like the real answer better.
i think it really speaks to the psychology at work in this
sort of music. same as the 303 was not intended for acid
house, whoever designed that E-Mu sampler did not anticipate
this. and what are you doing to my design? this is abuse!
this is not what the sample start parameter is for
stop abusing my sampler right now

i miss my yamaha dx200. the cpu in that thing barely cut it
and too much MIDI thru signal at once and it'd lose its
marbles in a gloriously musical way

this $5 server has a whole 512mb of ram to play with. who
says you need a database server to run a message board? hard
drives are quick these days and everything in unix is a
file; i can abuse the storage hierarchy just like sample
start

that is bad

wonder if bandcamp has a stance on it. certainly hurts their
image, too, imo
