just wanted to share this because the answer is cool and arguably of casual use to just about anyone

you know how your fingernails turn white at the end? ...and it can range from phosphorescent white to almost clear?

having had a fracture recently, i'm looking at my nails, and thinking: calcium levels? determine how white they are? i think?

in truth, a calcium deficiency does not impact the color/strength of your nails, it impacts how quickly your fingernails grow

then what makes them brittle or transparent, is essentially water damage.

thus, if your nails grow more slowly, they'll be more fragile and transparent by the time that tree ring reaches the fingertip, because it'll have had more time to accumulate damage

this means you're actually looking at a more recent reading than the duration of the whole nail... that if you start to casually note how often you need to trim your fingernails...

recommend adding this to your "how to do an end-run around doctors" list.
