How are things in your neck of the woods?
Have you been to any good shows or concerts lately or is
your country very strict and on lock down?

All the beat,
recycles ♻️

aw a puke pass is a rare thing to bestow, thx1138. funnily
enough i did barf the other night. a quiet, dignified vom.
really weird tho, i hadn't eaten anything out of the
ordinary and it was over in a couple of retches, but gosh it
was unpleasant conversing with the u-bend out of nowhere

years ago, my boyfriend came down to my studio as i was
working a track, massively drunk. at some point he found it
necessary to begin vomiting into my trashcan and so i did
the obvious thing, which was to hold out a microphone and
sample it. eventually he noticed, and i was equally clear as
i've just been: you've come down to my studio while i'm
recording a track and begun to vomit in my trash can; i am
sampling it. this is how life works. i won't say which track
it is, but it's on an album somewhere

but my point was a puke pass, yes. i'm not sure i'd be so
graceful about a second sofa, but i've only just got one
again after ten years, so that first still means a lot

sorry i'm probably watering it down

it's all very confusing with respects to, like who is what.
that ex-boyfriend, he'd never had a boyfriend, we were
together for years, then he married a woman eventually;
think he might have kids now. mostly i don't tend to find
anyone attractive until i've spent a certain amount of time
with them, had certain moments. then, like, i'm into
synthesizers and software engineering, and am i gay, or do i
simply not wind up hanging out with women much? food for
thot

i've joked about my dad on here before -- i got my first
soldering lesson before kindergarten; hello world in C at 9.
but man taught me next to nothing about sports or women

he told me a story once, that actually sort of bothers me to
this day. years before he met my mom, he has this jewish
girlfriend -- and let's stop for a sub-story, here

my father spoke pretty decent german; lived and worked there
for a few years. sub-substory: when i was ten or twelve, he
told me someone played him this band while he was in
germany, called "power house" and it was only like ten or
fifteen years later that i realized "power house" is the
english translation of kraftwerk and that someone played him
kraftwerk before they blew up and he totally hated it. he's
gone now, but i was lucky enough to sort it out in time to
come back to him and say: hey, that was freaking
kraftwerk you hated, bet you regret it now right? and
he was pretty much like: no i knew all along

and then the sub-story, his jewish girlfriend takes him home
to meet the folks, that serious, and her mom says -- in
yiddish -- "he's quite nice for a goy"

and yiddish is close enough to german that my father managed
to catch the translation. he replied, in english, "why thank
you!" and you could pick her mum's jaw off the floor etc.

but less good was he was relating to me how he was going
nuts trying to understand what she was thinking one day and
she essentially told him "just give up you'll never
understand" and he said that was his attitude since then and
for the man's massive, academic-grade intellectual
horsepower, this has always haunted me as a terrible
decision. like, you're making a life with someone, and you
just give up figuring it out? then he met my mum

actually, i think his exact word were that he was trying to
"figure out" what the hell was going on with her. that
relentless drive to figure shit out. the same pattern that
makes me obsessive about solving technical problems can make
me relentless in a way that can blow up a relationship,
because i simply can't let it go. so it'd fit to say he was
actually warning me about that... but, no, he wasn't; that
aspect of my personality is entirely from mum's side

i'd be interested in what advice everyone's dads gave them
about women, particularly the bits that eventually turned
out to be horribly incorrect

my aunt was going on at one point: "your father used to date
the most gorgeous women. oh my god"

and yes, i admit, i'm kind of like: "really? ...really?"

and then she keeps going "and then he met your mom"

ouch.

the man was amazing to me in the sense that, despite all the
shit i did as a kid, as any kid would do, he only got
actually mad at me a handful of times. never yelled; raised
his voice. all i ever got out of him about the death of his
sister that he was incredibly angry for a few years, he went
through therapy and learned to control it. i won't even
write the details, but suffice to say it was one of those
awful things that makes you want to bury your fist through
the computer monitor of humanity, even if it hasn't directly
impacted you or any of your relations. but, you know,
there's and aunt gone that i knew nothing about, and a
cousin. it's honestly one of the most tense things in the
family; i've never hear jack squat about his sister. it's
just too horrible for them

amidst all this he was coming out of the end of a PhD
program; done with a phase anyways. and he has a bad acid
trip... or, from what he said, "it was supposed to be acid
but it was some other horrible thing like meth or something,
and after that i was pretty much done with california and i
felt the urgent need to go back to massachusetts and start a
family"

so there was quite a bit of context, but i do like to say
i'm the result of a bad acid trip my dad had. and that's why
i exist
