knifehandchop -- some moments but largely bland

bit meddler -- good in the way vibert is in a rhythmic sense
but too out of tune for my tastes. like, seriously, i have
to stop listening, this is too out of tune. but i skip ahead
a bit because i like the rhythmic progression but fuck it's
out of tune i give up

cleveland shake -- quite good. wears on a bit

i guess i'm looking for artists that are a stylistic
combination the soft pink truth and venetian snares

"sticklebrick" is like alchemy man, it's hard to pull off
perfect mashups like that. the only other bootleg to give me
hiccups from laughing is by zilty's horsefactory,
sellotaping together the beastie boys - intergalactic and
the thomas the tank engine theme. lost it to a dead hd
sadly

if you just want helium sweetness and snaresish break
chopping may i recommend enduser's east side breaks and
west side breaks, no comedy factor though

no, it wasn't about the funny. it was about that woooo as
you're running as fast as you can through a field or
something. just a sort of euphoric adrenaline rush

(ea|we)st side breaks are like an ambient loop with vnsares
on percussion. very nice, but not what i really meant.

sticklebrick has vocals and pop chorus progressions and
hardcore percussion and woooo

sticklebrick, pitching some bass drum way up high for a bit
and doing a fill with it sounding like toms. very careful
enveloping, on the sort of clap-ish noise. the points where
it start and end very directly build into the strobing
effect. really lots to beard-stroke over. generally,
however, i'm lost in the track and i only start thinking
about all the techniques and noises after it's stopped
playing

or, i dunno, there are little fragments of thought about
clap noises that are rapidly shoved out of the way by other
things going on in the song and then it sort of coalesces

how good are you at replaying songs in your hed?

i will compulsively re-listen to things more than most
people could ever stand, and i have a pretty decent memory.
having listened to sticklebrick... oh, i dunno, fifty times
since it first came up? i can now play back large chunks of
it in my hed with reasonable fidelity. have made zero effort
to try and learn it, but it gets stuck in my hed, and then i
haven't listened to it since yesterday but i'm playing it in
my hed today and posting about interesting bits

good saturday so far

i can turn on the mental sterio for some tracks, mostly from
when i was working on amixiduninnit and getting acapellas to
line up nicely. like, i know every word of notorious big's
dead wrong, and i can hear all of audio two's top billin
(plus all the extra drums i put in) but it just happened by
osmosis not by any conscious effort. i'll admit though, most
earworms for me are just a verse or so, and i don't
re-listen compulsively

playing it back in your hed is not like playing back a
recording of the song... more like, a recording of your
pattern of reaction to the song.

it's actually interesting to me, what i have and what i
don't. i can play it back and my head and enjoy it, but also
realize "i'm not really sure what the kick drum does here."
so, like, the feeling is there (but not as good as the real
thing), the overall progression, but some details are simply
just rendered with generic textures to smooth out what's
missing. then it's only when you start asking yourself
questions, do you realize you've glossed over some bits

LAZY_TITLE

in high school, first years of the 00's, it is summer break,
and i am reliably staying up all night, and the only people
online are people on an IRC channel in Australia. due to the
lack of anyone else around on my schedule, i get to know
some of them, including this guy, who is still in high
school or a bit beyond and has just made his first srs album
in IMPULSE TRACKER in DOS and he's raving about trackers and
talking with this guy about trackers, he was so good
compared to where i was at the time, and fuck, i have to
download a tracker. impulse tracker then modplug then i get
distracted with prophedz reason

but, yes, he made this album on a 486, in DOS, i had like
three track he sent me on IRC in 2000 or something, then
over a decade later i web search it, shit, here's a whole
album. also it seems he moved to the US, cali timezone;
works for pixar now

frankly, i'm quite glad i thot of this thred when i had post
#02607006 blasting. i was like: you know, this person has
other stuff, and i've yanked this album out here and there
for years and never checked out the rest. i started digging
a little and promptly bought the bandcamp discog; it's a
bargain. there is quite a lot, it will take me a while to
get through it. you can also click on "archived works" on
the bandcramp and there's a bunch available for free, along
with sample kits, which i have downloaded and intend to
check out sometime soon w/milky

anyways, yeah, i'm listening to like the six or seventh
album, and there's renegade master in some massive
phenethylamine meltdown, and good god, we've come full
circle, i obviously have to circle back to xlt and post this
strange landing zone

hah nice! it's dated a bit but i still love the
original mix. better in my mind than the maximalist fatboy
slim re-rub that came out in about 97, though i like that
too

well, anyways, i think i've answered my own question, here.
i wanted more stuff like sticklebrick and this was
the answer; thanks 4 listening xlt

first time i can recall someone out-fatboying the slim

his remix of psyche rock is boring as heck, but probably
only because fatboy slim is pierre henry 2.0 and it's like
remixing into the same thing

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-12-12 05:47 [#02607120]
Points: 23949 Status: Addict

yeah this is like exactly what you'd put on in a mix after
sticklebrick

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-12-12 05:53 [#02607121]
Points: 23949 Status: Addict

ok no i've got it mixed up, the original psyche rock didn't
have breakbeats, fucking youtube, it's like "this is pierre
henry's psyche rock" and it's actually fatboy slim's remix.
i throw my hands up in the air. it's still an amusing take
on a classic
