I'm not a fan of early (pre 92) Hafler Trio stuff as it tends to be more abrubt and abrasive in nature and features a bit too much of just processed field recordings. His later stuff and especially recently (last 5 years) are really pleasant ambienty-minimal loveliness. I haven't heard a thirsty fish yet, or Kill The King which is supposidy his greatest work to date. |

it's fantastic, all over the place. that's the Hafler I like best, the collage-y kind. it's a bit like "kill the king". |

these are available where i can buy them: 'Whistling about chickens' 'Part the second: No man put asunder : 7 fruitful and seamless unions' 'How to reform mankind' 'Mastery of money' 'A thirsty fish' (i'm hesitating: 'A thirsty fish', or 'Mastery of money' + 'How to reform mankind' - as these ones are apparently part 2 and part 3 of a trilogy, part 1 being Kill the king... but i'm also tempted to get Scenery of decalcomania by Toshiya Tsunoda, Ozeanische Gefühle by Irr.App.(Ext.), Derive by Sachiko M... & i can't afford everything. so i guess i'll just hesitate for some more time.) |

The track elusive posted is from a 1994 re-release of two things from 1986. At that time there was another active member, Chris Watson (formerly of Cabaret Voltaire). The last thing I can find that he was involved in was A Thirsty Fish in '87. You will find that these releases are more 'collage' sounding with field-recording type samples and are more similar to the posted track. |

uzim -> I really enjoyed (and purchased) Mastery of Money, it seemed far closer to the later Hafler Trio sound than what I've heard of A Thirsty Fish. If you're on Oink, I'm currently seeding I Never Knew That's Who You Thought You Were as a FLAC (is that what you were getting at elusive ?). Yeah as mappatazee said, the releases when Chris Watson were still in H3O are far greater collage sounding and something I'm not too keen on, however everything post and including Kill The King is just Mr. McKenzie and is a lot more relaxed sounding in nature. My Exactly as I Say special edition apparently arrived at my house 5 days ago (I'm currently at a University based house). I can't wait for this one. Hafler Trio has recently found a special place in my heart. |
