According to Mike P Winter In The Belly Of A Snake could be
the VERY LAST MU RELEASE because not enough people are
buying Planet Mu Records.

The new Snares album is very different to his previous
material. Much more experiMENTAL and glitchy and melodic.
But still very good.

that is not good news at all......... which makes me bring
out the point.... people need to stop pirating small label
releases... it does nothing to advance good music... it
hurts the artist. Buy albums... its much more rewarding and
resectful.

the problem, i think, is planet-mu releases are so hard to
find, at least around where i live anyway. i can always
order online, but i ends up costing 40% more than i would
pay in a store :(

what album should i buy from this label?
i wanna support paradinas because he started the label with
his own money and doesn't see a penny of the prophet go into
his own pockets, it just all goes back into the label.

zaphod, you're a real sport! buy the double disc compilation
(at a very very fair price!), or one of the newest venetian
snares albums - that's my advice!

no doubt that Mike HAS to release some of his newer stuff he
claims he has...that would definatly bring out some cash
flow.
Also the idea of either getting his artists on warpmart
more..... or creating a way to sell his releases on the
label straight off his planet-mu site its self.
The Cosmic Forces of Planet Mu is a WONDERFUL compalation of
braindance! I think its probubly the best "IDM" compalation
ever.
AND planet mu releases are REALLY hard to find. Mike
definatly needs a new marketing stratagy...... or a new
marketing firm to use. Cause its a shame its soo hard to
find any of planet mu's releases.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-08-13 03:41 [#00346854]

yea he's very good. his albums this year have taken a
slightly more polished route than the snares of old. if you
like speed metal and stuff like that get old snares, it's
the electronic equivalent. otherwise his albums from this
year have been received extremely well by his fans.

the label comp has some snares stuff on it as well as pretty
much everyone else on the label roster, a very good buy

sounds like i would go for the newer snares. is it melodic,
because i tend to like that more than pure glitch techno.

it's not glitch or particularly melodic, it's still an
assault but just not as ferocious. if you like squarepusher
you'll like the new snares stuff, not that they're
necessarily the same.

Venetian snares Glue Funk is the first Planet-Mu that i have
seen for sale in the USA at a regular price.... so i thought
he was making inroads to distribute better....

his problem... too many releases aimed at the same market...
i would guess that he is too nice to say no to a lot of his
talent. too many releases... and most are often quite hard
to track down for less than $20, if at all...

Mikey P has to diversify more.... maybe porn or Finnish
lesbian hiphop or something or a hot band from Crotia

Hello all (i'm back)

OK, so... what are the sites where you see Planet µ
releases most? I saw always very few titles at warpmart.

I would think the label is OK cause the scarcity of µ
titles... but if Mike P says the contrary, then is time to
buy a µ disc next time

i think the problem is that Mike only makes enough records
or CD's to satisfy the original demand, then he stops making
them. It says something like "if you cant get a copy, blame
your store for not ordering enough in the first place." in
the faq of planet mu's website.
If that isnt shooting yourself in the foot, i dont know what
is. Slightly pretentious, too.

Weakling Child - it's the shops that are stifling the
availablilty of these records. Labels like Toytronic,
Rephlex, Skam, try to sell a larger amount into shops but
the shops only order one or two copies and then never
re-order. What is a lable to do? Do a bit of research on
Distribution chains before mouthing off. I know for a fact
there is tons of unsold Bola, Astrobotnia and Snares cds/lps
all sittiong at SRD (their UK distro) because of falling
sales... the shops just won't take a risk to stock them when
they could get a Warp or Ninja title in instead - more of a
brand-name = guaranteed sales. Just a marketing thing
really, tough times in a recession - I expect several labels
to lie low these next 3 years.
