i don't usually think, "oh, that'd be a good short story." because i don't generally write them. but, hmm. someone writes a bot in 1997; forgets about it. it keeps going for almost 30 years. posting on the board and accumulating data. simply being present for long enough that no one thinks to question anymore; treated as real. that the people who have "smart dogs" that really seem to understand english, are the ones that speak to their dogs as if they were people. left to its own devices, treated as real, it starts to become a cunning troll. everything blows up when it finally figures out how to SWAT someone. the cops go looking for the person paying the bills for the bot, presuming it was his deliberate act, but he's been "incommunicado" off sailing a yacht around various DMZs or something and then the rest of it is the chaotic fight over... well it's your bot, it had to be deliberate? sort of like any number of stories about a childhood toy with [imaginary?] powers coming back to haunt your adult life with a schema out of time. i do believe someone on the board blew me away by referencing "drop dead fred," a movie i saw 3/4 once, by accident, on tv, 20 years ago |

It's chemical well being. MDMA belongs here, not with oxytocin, as it completely floods you with it. norepinephrine: my body is regulating it's muscular systems correctly. oxytocin: not even a neurotransmitter. A hormone, found in high quantities with new parents/parental bonding/other love based situations. If you're gonna put in oxytocin, it's hippy-dippy to mention it but not mention- cortisol: stress hormone (among more basic body regulatory effects). In higher levels in people than ever because of the near constant stressors provided by society. Lower levels as we evolved in the African savannah. |

Yeah just from what I remember in biopsychology, oxytocin was mainly found and studied in parents and bonding with children (particularly: animal bonding with their offspring). But make no mistake, MDMA is all about the serotonin. I didn't care much for MDMA either, made me TOO open, TOO empathetic. I took it a few times on higher doses and said "never again." I remember that I wrote this friend a long email about autechre's Lentic Catahcresis and it was fucking *cringe* to read the next day. And for the record, psilocybin and lsd ALSO block serotonin reuptake and generally fuck with that particular neurotransmitter. I can feel that high most on mushrooms. Oxytocin, while mainly studied for emotional bonding, is probably a factor in romantic love and sexual activity too, but I definitely learned that ALL of those neurotransmitters with proper reuptake are. To have a proper ejaculation, iirc, you need proper reuptake of both serotonin and dopamine, for instance. It's why most of the drugs that inhibit uptake also cause problems with sexual function. |

If you're gonna put in oxytocin, it's hippy-dippy to mention it but not mention- alright. i would describe it as an incredibly deep feeling of fondness. chakras are almost as bad as galen's humours, but definite heart chakra zone. i've never messed around with anti-anxiety drugs, benzos, etc. but it's not just fondness, it's a feeling of just being so. completely. comfortable. and i suspect benzos would have a lot in common. my point was, i recognize it very crisply and immediately. you can actually get transdermal oxytocin patches -- i've always wanted to get ahold of a few simply to be like... okay, yes, this is exactly what i thought growing up, there was one of these well-raised, hyper-social people... and, well, i was sort of an aloof nerd (can you imagine?) back in high school and college, and the guy made an effort, more than anyone usually put into me, to be friends, to come over sometime. because that's how he was raised. to me, it felt a bit odd, but in a nice way, so sure, come on over. then i don't know him very well and somehow... guy would just get it out of me. boom, oxytocin release. something in his attitude; demeanor. i have always been incredibly envious of this. i guarantee you guy can just turn it on in all sorts of people, and i still can't fathom how he did it. cortisol: afaik it doesn't have a singular drop like oxytocin, making it harder to identify. but i have some strong hunches |

the stock art of the frazzled chick is brill, first off. but it's filtered down to this questionable site that Researchers have identified dopamine as one of the major neurotransmitters involved in schizophrenia symptoms. Over time, they’ve discovered that the symptoms are largely caused by high levels of dopamine in the brain and this jives with what i remember reading through... better quality saurces that imagine you're in front of a network of doors, each of which lead to more doors, and you have to find the wedge of cheese (i'll go with jahrlsberg; i could really go for some jahrlsberg right now). that you're confronted with 16 doors. going through one reveals another bank of 16 doors, and each of those doors lead to another bank of 16. and find the cheese. one strategy is to try the doors layer-by layer -- open the first door in the opening scene; no cheese? try the second. then all of the first sixteen. this is "breadth-first" another strategy is to open the first door in the opening scene, then open the first door in the second layer, the the first door in the third, until the game runs out of memory and there's just a brick wall. this is "depth-first" and i think dopamine is not, really, like "the happy chemical" so much as a modulator for breadth-first (less dopamine) vs. depth-first (more dopamine) but then the pruning of neural density during childhood development is probably an underlying cause of both ADHD and schizophrenia. i really feel they are two sides of the same coin, though |

alright, based on that (could be an accident, could be me just working to help myself) i think i can rework that to be more succinct: lack of dopamine, adhd, i'm using a cheese maze as a metaphor and i get hung up on what kind of cheese it is. long experience running my brain, i more or less powered through it, and got out with just (some shit) before ruining the flow of my point entirely. getting lost in a miasma of details and the point drifts off. too much dopamine, schizophrenia, you're using a cheese maze as a metaphor and just then an ad on a bus going by reminds you of a thought you had staring at cheese in the store three years ago, and you're sure of it now, the whole concept of a cheese maze is an eldritch plot -- an irony, really -- that, by encouraging you to re-use this common metaphor, they trap you in a plane of lower thinking. and there are absolutely no details at all and you've shot way past the point |

does anyone software engineering enough to understand this? phobs? tunemx? fruit? none of them read the place, they'd understand when i say: vivaldi built their news reader off of their email client, which is also intertwined with their calendar. i only use the news reader, and it's like "search your mail" when i try to search news articles. that, clearly, they are up shit creek with every update; someone adds a feature to the email client, and it breaks the news reader, because the news reader is an inherited copy of the email client (squinting closely) and no one tested what these changes would ripple down and do to the newsreader on whatever doomed configuration i happen to pwn. upshot is: it's much simpler if you just set out to regularly snarf up a bunch of RSS feeds. i don't even need an interface; i could just query the DB. but then probably will just blast it out to a little web page for daily browsing, but i'll enjoy having full text of stuff from 18 months ago and just being able to search. and this won't be terribly hard because i'm not trying to build it off of an email client that lives inside of a web browser that is built off of google's web browser which is built off of ground-up puppies and tears. if it's any good i'll put it on github and open-source it so i can be a part of the (C) microsoft code that comes out of copilot. welcome to The Futureâ„¢ |

my dream. my terrible -- wonderful? -- dream i want a web browser that is like a modular synth... a virtual modular synth, and downloading it, it's just been all patched up for you nicely and works -- haltingly -- like a normal browser. the lurchingness is made up-for because you can can click a tooltip and dive into the construction of anything in the browser. change it around; repatch things. build filters that it's polarizing, but i'm basing this idea on emacs. emacs is living source code. you can dig in and edit any part of the software, live, as it runs. it has shit like a zippy the pinhead quote database, a copy of the old ELIZA chatbot, and then, obviously, a function that pits the two against each other (M-x pinhead-analyze i think) ...and when you say "emacs" as if it is one thing... no, it's a living homunculus made of the most beautiful garbage. but no RMS; no lisp. something something ECMAScript. the hardest part is a JS engine... that you can dive in and repatch on the fly. but marketing, i think i have this -- i want to call it "WWWolf" and the logo will be like the firefox logo, except it is three wolves howling in a circle around the moon |
