Yeah a fucking museum lol, he said in an interview that some
younger guys forced him to use ableton. I havent heard his
recent music. Wonder if it’s any good.

I need to stop obsessing over gadgets and make more music. I
e only made about 4 albums this year so far

LAZY_TITLE

as always the answer is a very long gearslutz thread. sounds
like the mpc60 could be ok. ignore me

Mpc 60 costs about 1200 quid though... i do t have a record
player even. If i could make beats like preemo or early rza
id be a rich man. I guess they have good natural ears for
music,

for sequencing

according to that thread you just want an s950 for the akai
'color'

if you want the mpc workflow get a 1000, much more flexible

so an mpc1000 with s950 sounds like your end sum

then just get a s950 apparently

They cost like 4-6 hundred now. Maybe not worth the money.
If i make cool, stuff on the emu esi 2000 maybe the price
will go up lol

Just had a look at ebay, all the s950s are 600 quid with
broken backlight. No, just no lol

Acid is my true love

i think luke vibert is actually a better analogy, here -- he
does acid musics, and he went from an atari ST + sampler
(quite possibly 950) to reason. first album he made with it
you can kinda tell, after that it's just back to vibert
being himself

I had a concept for a jungle album and hip hop album but the
copyrights and stuff are annoying

Luke vibert is really talented but i never really got in to
his stuff

Aphex and ceephax are my favs from age 17. Squarepusher
around go plastic era i love too.

there is a lot to be said for the old machines, walking
through ancient corridors and realizing "ohhh, that's how
the chemical brothers did that." mindset, workflow, the
hedspace of working with buttons and knobs. when you get to
mpc1000 vs 3000, it's more like... the very specific subsets
of hedspace different versions of the MPC OS/layout imbue

generally the best thing, i find, is to pick themes. like,
the juke highbert album was maritime-themed intelligent
brain juke, and you say to yourself, "i need a dolphin synth
noise" and at that point it doesn't matter if aphex used it
or not, it's which of these little buggers will do the best
dolphin, and the answer is the korg ms2000.

Im over aphex used it
But theres a little bit of squarepusher and dj premier used
it in me

so you want to

a) reduce friction in your workflow
b) perhaps have a few bedrock classics like the s950 so you
can reverse engineer how your idols thot, and also perhaps
rip them off
c) whimsical themes provide some sort of forward momentum
and vague structure

this is, actually, a rather succinct summary of my own
creative process

I already have tonnes of gear

I think ive put too much pressure on myself to make another
album all the time.

Gear lust is easier than making stuff, it’s a lazy way
out.

Im just gonna play more mega drive, then get round to
starting my next album.

For my next one ive lined up a mastering guy who is quite
expensive but i know him kind of and he offered me a good
price i thnk. He has loads of analog outboard and good ears.

Anyway goodnight dude.
