on my ds.

ghosts n goblins: it's hard but good

lifeforce: basically a gradius sequel, best scrolling
shooter for nes imo

faxanadu: kind of odd action rpg.

sqoon: i can't get very far in this, it's weird you blow up
undersea habitats to release humans and try to get them
before killer whales eat them

metal storm: a late nes game (1991), nice graphics, not too
long. carts go for $100 now

bokosuka wars: the first tactical rpg-ish? i tried beating
it for a while but only got about half way, it's actually
kind of tedious. i made up lyrics to the theme song:

if you fight
if you fight
you will die.
if you fight
if you fight
you will die.
if
you
fight
you
ran-dom-ly
die.

When I was in China I got myself a cheap famiclone and
played The Goonies a lot. I remember it being difficult but
fun. Not a highly rated game, though.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might be a worth a revisit.

lolo 1/2/3
castlevanie 2 is fun imo (great music) but u need a damn
walkthrough
dig dug 2- lame fun kinda
double dragon 2- worth getting to level w river and just
listening to the music. music sounds like it has a frog
ribbit in it, hence a river. Also 'double dragon' 1 often
has twin polyphony, ie double polyphony ie double dragon
which is great.
excite bike, gargoyles quest, gauntlet, the zegend of
lelda,marios,megamen,kirby,
micromachines-a great game that is oddly like punchout. See
in punchout you get a warning that the enemy will punch in a
certain way, then have to make the right decision in time.
well in micromachines u have limited view so similarly get a
brief warning (left vs right turn) before making a decision.
and memorization helps in both games. this also happened in
a part of battletoads when you're riding a speedbike and u
get a warning whether to move up or down to hit a jump or
avoid a wall or something.
metroid, but I never really replay it cuz it'd take so long
and be to annoyingly maze like
punch out- excellent, my favorite nes game, could greatly
benefit from user created enemies with more randomness and
creativity and difficulty- though last time i played i
couldn't even beat tyson, i suck
monster party, lame nostalgia for me
spy hunter, fairly fun i guess
street fighter 2010- quite challenging, need to look up all
the moves to play well probably
strider, bionic commando, smellda 2 the adventures of stink

Yes the Lolo games.

Not sure about castlevania 2. I prefer the first one. Super
mario 2 is actually a lot of fun.

I played it on the amstrad cpc back in the day. I also
remember it being hard. I’d like to say I completed it but
really cannot remember. I do remember being stuck in a
certain section for ages, which I eventually overcame.

final fantasy -- that game takes weeks, months of
after-school to beat. spent the most time playing this by
far. didn't care for any of the sequels except maybe the
SNES ones. but i never had an SNES

rad racer II
metroid
mickey mousecapade
mario 1,2,3 but mostly 3
duck hunt, to this day, will never get old
paperboy ('paperboy 2' would be a superbly obnoxious rapper
name)
ironsword was a proper trip

mega drive is so cool. i never had one, so im just exploring
all the gems i missed playing as a kid, because me and my
friends all had a snes. and a ps1 afterwards. the ps1 was my
last console. after buying a pc, i didn't feel like playing
console games anymore

i know about this one :) its called lightening force in
america. if you like this you should also check: gleylancer,
battle mania 1, 2 and musha

there are a few other good shmups, but they are md versions
of pc engine games, so rather play them on pcengine

emblem seals belonging to the King Crimson Family in order
to expel the greatest evil, the Black Slayer, back into
another dimension."

Lol dang what is this, art looks really cool too

"kabuki - quantum fighter" that's one i had completely
forgotten about, not sure where i remember it from, maybe it
was advertised in nintendo power

i'm surprised nobody mentioned dragon warrior. those early
jrpgs are really grindy, fortunately with emulators you can
turn the simulation speed up to 2x. i couldn't really get
into the party-based rpgs, it's enough to manage one
character let alone 4.

haha even better, i have to play this now:

"It is the 666th year for the world of magic, and the
Crimson Kingdom is facing destruction at the hands of The
Black Slayer, Demon King of the Underground Dark Empire.
Realizing that his days are numbered, the 16th Crimson
Emperor Ronnie IV decides to entrusts his two infant sons,
Randy and Zakk, to his faithful servant Ozzy. With Slayer's
forces closing in, Ozzy, Randy, and Zakk escapes to another
dimension, with the hope of eventually bringing light back
into the world."

genesis- i got a shit ton (like the size of a shit that belb
would take for example) of replay value out of:
super street fighter 2 turd bow (but in an emulator only
special champion edition seems to work).
road rash 3 (2 used to be my fav, but natasha is such a
cheater, and I hate getting a crap club and not being able
to drop it, and actually both have great music).
I just beat goldenaxe 3 by the way, 2 is way better (music
too), but still a game where you hit B repeatedly until
enemies die isn't in my top 5 (but music is).

This is a very hard browser game i just beat:
