Exai

I'm infatuated with Exai today and yesterday.

It might be my favourite post-Confield release from AE.
There's lots of it but not too much. It's evidently
algorithmic but sounds carefully edited, composed or at
least assembled and curated. It's well mixed and mastered.
It has a nice balance of comprehensibility and
fucked-upness. Not too bassy and not too trebly.

For me, it is the baby bear's porridge. It is just
right.

Thinking about where to put my Exai decals so I don't look
like a dipshit. Probably, back in the sleeve.

It’s often the case that after digesting a new ae release
one goes back to an older (but not too old) record and hears
it with fresh ears. I love that.

Exai is ace. Maybe I should go back to Quaristice so it can
stop being my least fave post confield album.

Quaristice has some of the best ambient tracks mind you.

I recall Quaristice being pretty controversial to some fans.
I recall there were "theories" about "it".

i like quaristice more than exai and am thus condemned to
lurk here as a pariah. the perlence tracks seal the
deal for me though, so good

also i think quaristice was their last album before they
went all max. i'm not saying that is a bad thing but it
should change their overall output

I probably like Quaristice more than you do. Just to put
things into perspective here.

it’s still great, motherfucker.

russelldust what if you said "the _______ are not my
favourite race but I still like them more than mermaidman
does" would that be ok I don't think so

What wouldn’t be ok is that I “like a race less”, but
I don’t see a problem with mermaidman liking them less.

I went to see Sleaford Mods on Friday, and before they came
on they were playing some great tunes (Beastie Boys, King
Bee, Missy Elliot, Portishead, DJ Shadow, The Pop Group)
including Ae's "Laughing Quarter". Nice pair of lads.

Nice.
