it actually took me by surprise. i had my car fixed; i
hadn't out that late for a burger in ages. wendy's used to
be open until 4.. now everything's gone at 11pm? truly, the
trump presidency has taken a harsh tolll. even old-fashioned
american businesses are struggling to make normal hours

24 hour stores always give me a sick feeling even if I need
something from them. It's a violation of natural law for a
building to be brightly lit forever. It needs to shut down
and sleep. Its familiar spirits become nauseated,
disoriented and malicious when they cannot rest.

Imagine being the local 7-Eleven imp and feeling like you've
been pulling all nighters since the store opened.
Horrifying. No wonder Trump got elected.

I really like the idea of being able to go to a convenience
store at 2 in the morning but yeah those fluorescent lights
would put me off

I find Trump as deeply problematic as the next person, but
let's not forget that he never would've been "elected" if we
didn't already exist in an overtly white supremacist
country. So until we tackle the societal issue we're only
treating symptoms. One solution I read about would be to
annually administer the Implicit Association Test to all
white students beginning in PreK, and place those who show
evidence of racial bias in remedial diversity training
programs. Obviously this will be a slow process, but within
a few generations we could finally eradicate racism once and
for all

yeah he is like an avatar of the stupid ignorant American
trope, something deeper and more problematic underlies it
all, seems America has been going progressively more right
and right for years

Shops close at seven (pm) here, and at five on Saturdays
while being closed on Sundays. You can find two delis in
town that open until 10. McDonald’s closes at midnight.

i don't think things ever recovered to what it was like
around 05-06 in terms of places staying open late. recession
combined with more young people becoming shut-ins and not
having cars, etc.

I used to work nights in a 24 hour shop, 11pm-7am.

It's better for everyone if they shut at midnight.

Weirdly, I just imagined Alan Partridge walking into your
shop and you two having a conversation.
