I think AI that strong is relevant to more than a couple thousand people. Eurorack is just a fun problem domain for training. If it can take a bunch of modules and link them together in new, interesting and aesthetically pleasing (to humans) ways, it can probably trade stocks, write novels, and topple inconvenient governments too. |

alright, then. a lot to respond to, there. it was probably just something you wrote and posted and didn't proofread, and consequently, some of it is garbled. i'll just deal with it peace-by-pc, and we will have the understanding that i know i'm probably dissecting it too much... however, through over-solving the problem, i will have likely answered whatever questions you actually had. Do you obsess at all? sort of. certain activities just engage me. programming, music... hours will go by and suddenly i realize i really have to pee. i have gotten into the habit of making sure to position myself correctly before i get back to work after a break, because there have been times when i started messing with something before sitting down and eventually noticed i'd been standing for 45 minutes. if i work on something for most of the day, i'll often keep picking at it in my head as i lie in bed, and it can keep me from sleeping. i wouldn't really call it obsession, though, so much as saying that i have an all-consuming focus that has taken me a good many years to learn how to manage properly. It’s just that when I hear your stuff I hear your creativity, I have never categorised you as an immaculate sound sculptor or whatever. i put a hell of a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it. drive myself insane over the placement of a note or two -- but only when it matters. this post i wrote when writing q qq qqq. i spent weeks on that track. into it to the point where i'd come home from work with an idea for a few notes in the bassline or something that specific. at the same time, though, i didn't give a shit about certain details. mastering could be way better... so, immaculate, no. but only because i prefer to focus on more important fings You come across as lo fi and i like it, so why this shit? it was more a sense of "oh, no, that's not quite the right way to put it... but what is?" the lo-fi is an aesthetic, yes... i work hard on it, yes... but, in between, there really is a bit of a dichotomy. i care about it being perfect, but not about it being pristine. i like a bit of organic slop... but then i compulsively try for just the right amount of organic slop. |
