they know it's not right but i don't think they can grasp it emotionally. like you said if there were no laws or no price to pay they would do it much more often. i think the question is do they feel guilty about it and more importantly is this guilt caused by social norms, is it because it is considered wrong by society or do they understand and feel why it is wrong to do such a thing to someone? i might be wrong of course but it feels like they are emotionally developed abnormally. |

yes, i think their emotions must be hardwired differently. it also always has a sexual aspect to it. i think when the arousal becomes so big these people can't hold it. i also think there must be others who have the same fantasies and desires, but never act on them. its weird but at the same time very human, that you can actually sexualise everything u can imagine. so there are fetishes for everything. people who get horny for any objects, behaviours, anything. people fucking cars, shitting in their faces, getting horny when they put on cotton knitwear you name it. some can life their weird fetishes, others would break the law and/or hurt others. |

I actually find it in a way super-easy to imagine how someone could committ the most horrific crimes, then shrug it off and eat a hamburger .... Bullying and wanting to dominate are pretty normal aspects of everyday-life. Those psychopaths just seem to take this everyday-behavior to the absolute extreme. Killing and mutilating is just the most extreme case of realizing a common desire for domination ... Let's put it like this. I'm more shocked by the fact (and I actually am shocked by it) that bullying is a super-normal aspect of everyday-life than by the rare extreme case of psychopaths. ... I also work in Marketing, and it's ridiculous that one of the most common and effective way to make customers happy is to make them feel superior in status. People love feeling superior and killing somebody can definetly be a vehicle for feeling superior to the victim. |

i agree. what kind of childhood does these murderers go through i can't imagine. there's got to be genetics involved in it but i don't think genetics play as a big role as experience does. genetics alone can't result in a human that way i think. |

I admit that there's a distinction between using (a) violence in order to achieve some other purpose and (b) using violence for the sake of violence. It just seems to me that using violence for the sake of violence is a part of normal everyday-life. I don't find it convincing that the regular bully is using violence in order to achieve some other goal which he could in principle achieve using non-violent means. It just doesn't stand out as much in everyday-life because people are complex and are driven by a mixture of motives. ... what's the common explanation for the existence of schizophrenia? especially given that it's significantly hereditary and people with it don't tend to experience reproductive success? one theory is that it's simply the price we pay for having half of a brain devoted to language. there actually is a clinical test you can do to determine if someone is a psychopath, but since it involves electric shocks, it can't be done these days. essentially, people get zapped, it hurts, then if they know another zap is coming, they anticipate it, and you can read this through galvanic skin response. psychopaths don't react like most people -- in fact, they don't react at all. unlike everyone else who got zapped and now tenses up when another is coming, the psychopaths have no cause/effect connection between the zap and upcoming circumstances. i don't have any stats for this, but i psychopaths tend to get laid a lot more than schizophrenics. |

Strange workings of nature :O A friend of mine's schizophrenic and he likes to listen to three different things at once -- youtube and pandora playing music while he has something on netflix -- to drown out the voices. if you cut off sensory input -- isolation tank etc -- people reliably begin to hallucinate. getting the sensory input back -- opening up the tank lid -- immediately halts these hallucinations. seems straightforward enough that someone who has hallucination problems at baseline might appreciate stronger/more stimuli |

i have a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and i used to take 1p-lsd and al-lad (very close to lsd in structure and effects). it probably didn't help since i ended up cracking my pelvis trying to jump down my toilet, thinking it was like the pipes in mario. i've had somewhere between flashbacks and hppd ever since, but i used to smoke a lot of synthetic cannabinoids too which probably plays into it. whatchoo wanna know mermaidhuman? |

oh yeah that's super Mario world 2, I haven't played that one, the one I used to play loads was super Mario land on the game boy, and super Mario 64, which is still fantastic, new Mario game on switch looks utterly brilliant.
