ever thought about building one?
automatically play loads of your fav tv material
at preprogrammed schedules to zap through
by actually or virtually changing channels via a remote?

possible components could be
a tv crt/flat
a remote/w7 remote/mobile remote app/custom built stuff
a os/software
a mediaplayer/pi/pc/usb drives/sticks

yes i had this same thought in the past, it would make a
nice raspberry pi project, a small media centre, you could
make your own adverts with a web cam as well

:) innit?
basically it would be nice to have an advanced shuffle
effect for my shows, movies and music videos.
the idea is to recreate something more similar to a real tv
experience, as in having to watch something right now,
because you cant pause or rewatch it. also to have some
vague randomization effect as one wont have the whole
schedule in mind.

easiest way this could be achieved: by a schedule software.
but even those wont make it possible to switch themed
channels, which would be cream of the crop to have real
depth and variety.

i think this is the future for sure, youtube playlists are
sort of the start of this sort of thing, it would be even
better if you could broadcast it for your mates like radio

digital tv kind of doesnt get into this yet though.
at this state it just delivers access to binge watching
seasons or movies on the push of a button, which folks did
for a decade without a netflix account.
ive come to the point where i want to save me the trouble of
choosing one content over the other, but i dont want to give
up my gusto completely.
you mentioned youtubes playlists and recomendations, which
are closest to this right now and represent the "modern age
zapping".

yes having a custom tv channel would be great idea i reckon,
its a bit weird to me why all programs from the past havent
been archived digitally completely for you to pick and
choose, surely it would generate loads of money, suppose its
down to legal issues like rights and stuff like that

yarrpp, prolly gonna cost a fortune,
tons of stuff does get aired on "low budget" channels.
usually federally self produced shows or knight rider,
a-team stuff.
guessing music is most expensive and cartoons are just
bigone.

yes getting the licensing for scenes where they have popular
music from the 80s in or what not, thank god for torrent,
archive.org youtube and other stuff but even then not
everything is covered, complete or in a quality that is
desirable its annoying because you know future generations
will have better access to this stuff cos of historical
interest but i doubt they will be wanting to watch it as
avidly as the likes of us
