I think I'll post a sample of the Heroe's track just to make
a point on how big a difference there is.

SAMPLE
Check it out. It's a 10 sec sample off the original cd from
2:30-2:40. If you can't hear a difference you need better
speakers/ears.

i was not saying that you can never hear a difference...
just that you can nowadays encode in really good quality and
that this whole discussion is a bit idiological sometimes.

an interesting thing you found there..

um, that wav there is way quieter than my 160kbps mp3 that i
ripped from the cd. Mine sounds better

Points: 3436 Status: Lurker

Louder does not mean it sounds better. That wav is from the
japanese cd that has the original track. Maybe you like the
dull sounding version on 26 mixes and thats fine, but
perhaps listen to the sound quality and not the volume.

That's pretty piss-poor.
I mean, it's one thing if they couldn't find the masters for
some of the tracks, and the only source of the track still
available is an mp3, so they used it,
but it is inexcusable if a fan can find an original copy and
compare to the album version, but the label was too lazy to
find an original copy, and just took the easy way out.
And I'm sure there's a few other remixes that Rich has
done, floating around, that never got released, for one
reason or another. But we all know it can be very dangerous
for the aficionados to hear anything new to them or
unreleased.

There were several remixes that did not make it onto 26
Mixes as well as several that were shortened for the
release.
Seefeel - Polyfusia - 09 Time to Find Me (AFX Slow Mix)
Gavin Bryars & Aphex Twin - Raising the Titanic - 01 Raising
the Titanic (Edit)
Jesus Jones - Zeroes & Ones - 04 Zeroes & Ones (Aphex Twin
Reconstruction Mix #1)
Nav Katze - Never Mind the Distortion - 02 Ziggy (Aphex Twin
Mix #1)
Beck - The New Pollution (Disc 1) - 02 Richard's Hairpiece
(Remixed by Aphex Twin)
Meat Beat Manifesto - Mindstream - 05 Mindstream (The Aphex
Twin Remix)
Saint Etienne - Who Do You Think You Are - 03 Who Do You
Think You Are (quex-rd)
Soft Ballet - Twist and Turn - 10 Sand Lowe (Polygon Window
Remix)

None of those are on the cd's.

Ah, that beck remix is shit anyway. I wouldn't care if i
never heard it again. Despite not even having 26 wanks for
cash, i'm glad it's not on there.

Urghh.. mp3 sourced stuff being released officially. I
didn't even think this were possible. I mean how stupid.
Did the masters disappear into Richard's bank vault never to
be found.........

Maybe they lost some of the cd's? After the Heroes remix
was on a 3" cd. Must have been misplaced in their mountains
of cd and demos.

you don't actually hear a certain tone in that range but you
can tell that something is there. how much this
depends on the setup (background noise of the speakers below
that frequency and such) i can't tell.

we measured this thing actually

on is another masterpiece

I think all that richard did till 95 is pretty much the best
music one can find

aphex music is not perfect... but it doesnt need to be
perfect to be the most exciting and beautiful

and Cheffe, i agree with youthat people AREN'T hearing those
freqs, but noise from the speakers. Not sure how J4roen is
hearing 25khz because he "turned it louder" ... ok ?

but iknow what you're saying.

I'm referring to the very sensitive devices that output
those frequencies in the testers

offline Duble0Syx from Columbus, OH (United States) on 2004-10-03 15:06 [#01351914]

A cd's frequency range is only 22,500hz. I think most
people could here the difference between something that has
no frequencies above 16Khz and the same thing with
frequencies up to 22Khz. Check the sample I posted with the
same section form the 26 Mixes version and it's very
obvious. Either way i just goes to show WAPR got lazy and
that record companies may as well continue using mp3's for
sources since a lot of people seem to think they sound
"better" and other can't tell.
