Eminem Vs. Moby

Not really, most people I know in the UK have never heard of
him. I reckon you could compare cd sales but that doesn't
seem like a particularly good way of measuring popularity.

Eminem has to hate SOMEBODY, its part of persona... he can't
hate fags anymore... thats played out, he can't play the
race card, he has already spewed out lots of hate at his
mommy... so why not hate Moby??? he is a dweeb, rips off
black music to make himself rich in a different way than
Eminem... so why not? You gotta hate something, might as
well be Moby! Moby brings it on himself anyway

i actually like Eminem, thou he seems a bit naive in the
music department, and he can only rap about himself or it
gets boring fast.... Eminem needs more creativity on the
production side... dre gets him a bouncy cathy pop single
"Without me", other than that the only tracks that i can
even remember are "Square Dance" and the repetitious over
the top "White America"

Moby's been around 10 years, must be doing SOMETHING right,
although it's not his music...

I doubt Em will last that long, considering the fickle
tastes of hip-hop and his own self-destructive behavior...

Ubik: eminem did the beat for "without me", not dr. dre. dre
did "business", "say what you say", and another one i can't
think of at the moment.

i think eminem's production is much more creative than
moby's. all of 18 and most of play sounds the same.

I can totally relate to the being turned off with the
mainstream being like, "Did you hear the new..." that
happened to me with Weezer. That and them just starting to
suck. But even the old stuff doesnt sound the same

(from verse #3 of eminem's "without me")

And Moby, you can get stomped by Obie,
You 36 year old bald headed fag blow me
You don't know me, you're too old
Let go, it's over, nobody listens to techno

(pachi)

I LISTEN TO TECHNO, BIOTCH!!!!

I have nothing against either of them, although i like
Eminem's music more than Moby's. I've been a fan of Eminem
since Infinite first came out, and i still am. Just because
he's popular now, doesn't mean he sucks. He still produces
good music, and always has IMHO.

My Eminem Collection
Eminem Show
Live At Brixton Academy
Off The Wall
Rap Attack
Freestyles 2
Loosing It
Platinum Collection 2001
Slim Shady
Infinite
Marshall Mathers LP

I prefer Eminem to Moby but I hate all this "I listened to
Eminem since Infinite came out." The number of people who
say that and yet the record sold somthing like 3 copies
world wide. It was also shite. I have listened to rap for
over ten years and the first I heard of Eminem was "Just
don't give a fuck" off the Slim Shady EP.

But Moby released a classic with Go. So I can't complain
about him.

Eminem is Elvis resurected hehe!.
Being white and doing black music thats been there for ages
and then become the biggest on the scene.
Also Elvis was considered very controversial at the time .
Isn't eminem the biggest selling rapper?
History repeats itself and that can only mean one thing ,
Eminem will become fat and eat himself to death hahahaha!

ecnadniarb: I must have 1 of the first 3 sold then, heh. I
don't think it was shite either, just wasn't very well
produced. Infinite (the song) is my all time favourite song
of his. And i've been a fan of rap for around 10 years too.
Although IDM owns it now. I can't listen to anything other
than IDM now.

It was before he developed his style and was trying to rhyme
like other people. None of the tracks had the humour he put
in the tracks that followed, the production was very weak,
and I stand by my opinion it wasn't a good album. :)

btw, I don't like IDM. I only come here to laugh at the
people who think it is a valid form of music.

offline brendan from Adelaide (Australia) on 2002-08-31 13:51 [#00373668]

That's cool, it's your opinion. Still has some catchy tunes
on it though. And i don't listen to Eminem for humour,
that's just a bonus.

And damn dude, you must be pretty bored then.

offline ecnadniarb on 2002-08-31 13:55 [#00373670]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

Yes but the sooner the world realises that my opinion is the
only opinion that matters the better.

I just listen to the sounds around me, who needs music then?
Why would I be bored? Look at some of the other threads on
ths board with people saying how depressed they are and how
music is their only friend...I smile 99.9% of the time and
0.1% of the time I just smirk.

Magic, I felt the same way about Weezer for a while.
"Pinkerton" was a waste of money, and I never bothered to
buy "The Green Album", but last month I decided to give
their recent album "Maladroit" a chance and it was quite
good... back to their heavier style, like on the first
album.

because of his rhyming name?

the latter, though from what i understand he hates moby as
well. i guess for the same two reasons eminem hates him: he
talked shit about eminem (obie's pal! ;) ) and his music is
annoying.

a lot of hip-hop people used to like moby but are tired of
him now. the roots, who moby is a huge fan of, thought 18
was a major let-down. and rightfully so...

i listened to 'play' and 'everything is wrong' today for the
first time in 2 years. both are excellent, albeit a bit
predictable in mood and chord structure. '18' is horrendous
though.

Moby's music is fairly enjoyable, albiet very easy to listen
to, and pretty predictable...however, I don't think Eminem
has the right to cuss anyone, especially considering his
music isn't too great itself...mind you, it is good if you
want to hear the f-word plenty of times...:D

Mobys own comments from Moby.com

"i think that eminem is talented and interesting but i'm
kind of stunned at the anger that he has for me seeing as
i'd never met him up until last night."

"and i do feel the need to clarify one last little point.
when eminem accepted his award i was not booing. ironically
enough i was clapping because that seemed like the polite
thing to do. everyone around me was booing him, but i was
sitting there politely clapping. i don't know why he accused
me of booing him, because for what it's worth i certainly
was not."

hehe! he is very comfused now.
Like i said before , picking a fight with moby is like
picking a fight with a moonk or a priest, it is not exactly
a brave or daring thing to do haha! What a pussy Eminem
is!!!!
And they had never met hahaha! its just a stupid media
trick.

So he makes bad music, no one's perfect.

I bought the Moby album 18 on the spur of the moment and
gave it to a friend before i had heard the whole thing. Then
I had to buy it again for my mum's birthday. Gah.

18 is nearly a track by track rehash of play. terrible. and
play wasn't very good to begin with.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2002-09-01 18:31 [#00374649]

...it seems popular to hate Moby here....true, 18 was a
little...er...cack. But, he is, unlike Eminem, mostly
respectable as a person, and at least he doesn't feel the
need to cuss his mother, homosexuals, or other musicians.
Eminem's constant hatred gets on my nerves, and, if he
really wants to be a "badboy", couldn't he could pick on
someone a little more vicious than Moby?

But he still has 100x the charisma of the dull moby, who
should just let his music do the talking m'kay.

That's the problem with moby...his music doesn't do any kind

how is moby a respectable person? i have zero respect for
him and feel totally justified in that. i have some respect
for eminem though cos he says what's on his mind even if
people hate him for it. sure, you (not me) could be cynical
and call that marketing but i believe he's sincere. even if
i don't agree with what he says i have to admire him for
having the balls to say and do what he wants. he's utilizing
his sudden (he spent years in the hip-hop underground scene)
fame to bring up some very interesting subjects in his
lyrics (whether or not you (not me) pay attention to those
lyrics versus the lines he throws in just to fuck with
people).

for the record, moby and eminem have both produced a ton of
awesome songs IMO.
