I meet myself everyday and so I am keeping an extensive
catalogue of my encounters with myself with snapshots,
polaroids, digicam footage, autographs, taped interviews
etc..so that I can prove to myself that I knew myself before
I was famous after I am famous..so when I namedrop myself
once I am famous..and people go..fuck off..no way..and then
I can produce these detailed accounts of me meeting myself
prior to fame only to be arrested for being star stalker
and getting arrested stupidly enough for stalking
myself...now that would be a totally stupid but very
probable eventuality..

Saul Williams: cool, i didn't realise there were any fans in
here...

anyhow, a few years back (right after 'she' was released) he
was visiting college campuses promoting she and a friend of
mine who attended a college near here tole me that someone
told him that Saul was going to be eating luch in a private
room in the cafeteria on campus and that guests were
allowed.

only 4 other people knew about it. we all showed up in this
room and just waited. when he walked in the room, he had
such an intense presence, you would have been able to tell
if he was there if you had your eyes closed.

things were a little ackward at first, no one really
talking.. people eating (saul had pizza). but then things
got all loosey goosey. we started talking about 'slam'.. and
the conversation went to music, racism, anything you can
think of... we laughed and joked.. it was really
comfortable. i got him talking about his new album (in the
works at the time). it was cool.. really really cool..

we sat in there and shot the breeze for 3 hours! when we
wrapped things up, i asked him if i could take his tray up
for him. i kept his fork (with lip prints still on it). it
sits in my sudio right on top of my 8-track recorder.

then i got to go see him read some poetry, and the 4 of us
that ate lunch with him all got to sit right up front. he
was doing coded language and forgot the next line and one of
the dudes that was with us at lunch had to remind him what
the next line was... that must have been the coolest moment
of that dudes life.

thats about it. i got him to sign my copy of 'she' on the
page with the poem.. two autumns, and i have not changed
enough. - he signed "jason - may these words bring worlds -
sw"

i had my picture taken with him and he put his arm around
me. i got his email address and gave him a tape of my music.
we've emailed eachother... can't say enough cool things
about him.

i accidentally erased the pic of him off my digital camera.
that was terrible.. at least i still have the fork.

-

excellent story jason! thanks for sharing! i'm a major saul
williams fan and that sounds like an amazing experience, i'm
so glad it happened to you.

i don't want to infringe on you so let me do this as
respectfully as possible. i sent saul an email at his
address linked on his web site - saul@saulwilliams.com.
unfortunately he never responded :( i was disappointed at
first, but after a while i realized it's probably not his
real address and it probably gets screened by a couple
people before getting passed onto him, IF anything ever is.
can i update the email i sent him (which would've been
months ago, so i'll fix it up for august 2002), email it to
YOU and you can forward it to him? i don't want to intrude
on his privacy so i'm NOT asking you for his address. if you
could help me out that'd be tight. thanks..

Potato - Slam is a cool flick! as is S.Williams.

jonesy - you are such a 'tard! As if I'm the type to lie
about being a model! I am a secure 26 yr old Lady. I did
some modelling when I was 18/19. Most notably a cd-rom and
an in house thing for Club Monaco, I quit cause I really
disliked the biz (the fakenes & my agent tried to rip me
off).

Other celebs I've chilled w/ include the Psychic Wariors of
Gaia, Blake Baxter (Detroit techno pioneer, the one who
says "brothers gunna work it out" for the Chemicals, he
asked me out but he was too old, fat, UNattractive), Tiga
(montreal - greman based DJ/electro producer), tons more
DJs, blah, blah, blah....
Oh, remember Max Headroom? He now lives in my old town, and
frequents my roomie's store (along with other celebs), I'm
very impressed by that, M-M-Max Head-headroom was so
wicked!

you know, it's true that thing about celebs being smaller in
real life than they are on television.
i met ronnie barker in southend two years ago and it turns
out he's actually only 3 foot 4.

that ronnie corbett, on the other hand, on tv he looks about
4 foot seven but when i met him in blackpool in 1990 i was
amazed to find him towering over me at a whopping 34 feet
17.

small club in DC in March......totally blown away.

but thats a GREAT story, don't lose the fork and how did you
manage to get lip prints....was he wearing lipstick...or the
pizza was greasy?

thanks so much for sharing!

I saw squarepusher. Didn't get to speak to him though. He
was arriving for the gig at the Prince of Wales in Melbourne
and he accidently went into the public bar where I was
waiting with princo. We just went 'wait a minute isn't that
tom' but after about 5 secounds he had turned around and
went back out to the other entrance.

I saw him at the gig also. Which we were pretty close to him
cause it was on a pretty small stage and he was only about 2
metres away.

lets be done with this silly topic.

I have met many 'famous' people, I used to work at a music
venue so you just kind of met them in passing. I gained not
one ounce of knowledge for meeting any of them. I only got
to able to say I met blah blah blah. After saying that a few
times the novelty wears off.
