errrrrr i hate that "indymedia.org" site!

i went there a long time ago expecting to find an
INDEPENDANT source of news!
nono.... it might as well be called
"protesternews.com"!!!!!
its EXTREMELY biased!

now i am left-wing myself.. pretty far left-wing, in fact
but reading news SO biased that its basically just
propoganda is just stupid..
cnn isn't even as much propoganda as this

dont get me wrong i agree w/ this site's opinoins........
but its trying to influence people just like the governments
PR is!
and thats just stupid...
ESPECIALLY when it passes itself off as "independant" media!

yeah but everything has a bias - it's the nature of human
thought - it's a left wing protest site - i'm sure it's
pretty easy to find right wing nazi or fascist sites on the
net - also your point about propaganda - the way society is
set up - more people get to see cnn so they belive cnn is
giving them the truth - on the other hand they are liklely
to not trust something like indymedia as much - hegemony
hegemony

\He*gem`o*ny\, n. [Gr. ?, fr. ? guide, leader, fr. ? to go

usually applied to the relation of a government or state to
its neighbors or confederates. --Lieber.

"its not the country, its the government"
"and yes,the US,whether you like it or not..."

hehe, but I know what you mean. I thought it was the "allied
forces" who defeated the Nazis.... but you're right, the US
was part of that alliance. I don't know how these historic
events are of consequence in the current situation...

they aren't - and it wsa the collaborative forces of the
allies that stopped the nazis - the us forces were more
appparent in japan though - ie the atomic bombing of
innocent people in hiroshima and nagasaki - the problem now
is the us pretty much does what it wants - it's on a
"crusade"

oh for fucking christs sake

WWII

England and the USSR were the only powers left to fight the
european theater(and they were getting their asses kicked)
before the US committed troops to europe

and even before that, the US was supplying the Allies with
weapons and materials they were too fucking poor to afford
(WWI devestation)
as much as people dont want to admit Europe was in
shambles,it was,ill admit it (i moved to the US no longer
than 3 years ago,and i still love ireland more than any
other country patriotically)
so im not biased,im telling you the facts

the US also issued the Marshall Plan, which, believe it or
not, saved Europes economy from 50 years of hard work(and
they are still working on getting it all the way back)

again,those are the hard facts

Laserbeak-thank you for understanding my views, again, you
dont have to agree with them, but it really angers me when
the blame for all this chaos is upon the unknowing and
somewhat ignorant masses instead of the government, which is
propelling itself to do these horrible deeds.

again, these things are horrible, but you have to expect
civilian casualties in war, there are innocent casualties in
every war, believe it or not, not just this one.

thank you for listening...i am enjoying this argument.

why are you bringing up the past? i thought we were talking
about the US actions right now? a lot has changed in the
last 50 years, especially in US politics - if you're going
to bring up the past to explain the present, bring up the US
political past, starting with the fact that roosevelt knew
about Pearl Harbor, and allowed it to happen because he
wanted to join the War and he was in a minority for wanting
this -- he knew that the pearl harbor situation would kick
up a frenzy of patriotism/disgust/"let's git those nips"....
look, it's the template for 9/11!! history DOES repeat
itself!

"if you're not with us, you're against us" (gwbush 2002)

I gotta say, I was beyond annoyed when I heard about them
killing the Canadians... and really, did Bush even give a
public apology? I never saw it if he did...

he did..... EVENTUALLY

like 2 days later i think

and even now..... now that they KNOW that the pilot
disobeyed 2 direct orders NOT to fire he wont necessarily
face some punishment

marlowe-im sorry, the WWII thing was an entirely different
argument, and you are right about Roosevelt knowing, but it
wasnt all about him wanting to enter the war, this just
helped provoke it, there were a lot of confirmation problems
before the attack(so a lot of people knew it was coming,
they just didnt officially recognize the threat, hence the
lack of preparedness)

the point about history i was trying to make is, a lot of
people peg the US like it is the demon on earth when all
governments make these mistakes, throughout history it is
evident, and you should expect innocent casualties in all
wars, bush should get off his lazy ass and issue an apology,
but thats my point. dont blame the us, blame the us
government.

thats all.

why are you talking about with innocent casualties in war?
is that a good defense why the US, alone, should decide not
to play ball if any of its soldiers are held accountable for
any crimes they may commit? that's the only application i
can see for your "you should expect innocent casualties..."
speech, but if you were referring to something else, then
sorry, please tell me what? thanx

"and you should expect innocent casualties in all wars"

I bet Mr. Bin Laden also used this excuse

"dont blame the us, blame the us government"

Isn't the US government (more or less)democraticly chosen?
Also, I don't see many protesters...

offline GIR from Easton on 2002-07-02 21:44 [#00293832]

it was wrong, but its also wrong to blow this up......like
it was to blow up the 9/11 attack

hmm...seems its not even the US government doing wrong, it
was the fucking pilot.....so why still blaming the US?
shouldnt you blame the person who actually committed the
crime and went against orders?

i think a lot of people are so hurried into blaming the US
that they ignore anything else...

a country is not the government, the government is part of
the country, therefore blame the government, not the
country.

i could get into a whole argument about the election
process,but im not going to

im sorry for going against the wind

perhaps i should conform.

i'm not even referring to the pilot who disregarded direct
orders -- altho i'm surprised Bush waited two days, or
something, to apologise - after all, the US armyman
represents his country...it will be interesting to see what
becomes of this individual

i'm more interested in the "will only play ball if our
soldiers are IMMUNE and ABOVE prosecution"

marlowe-did i ever state ONCE that the soldier should not be
prosecuted?

and the conformity thing was an attack for you picking me
out because i am actually siding with the US(somewhat) on
this one.

jar-i like.....music ;p

hey cretin, as i told you, i'm not referring to that
soldier, i'm referring to the US not playing ball unless
their soldiers in the east europe/the middle east are immune
to prosecution...

...and you are conforming to the US attitude (somewhat) on
this one.

like you said, conformity is an overused word

i choose not to argue to one who insults the other

if you want to think you win, fine.

i enjoyed this discussion before this.

insult? aren't YOU the sensitive one? "cretin" hit a bit
close to home?

so, when did i say that you didn't think the disobediant
soldier should be immune to prosecution?

oh, that's right, i didn't... don't worry, i'm not so
sensitive as you, so i won't expect a retraction of your
implication

so, still no retraction then? that's ok, because it's US
policy not to retract wrong accusations, and you conform to
their attitude (somewhat), so i'm not surprised

It's fucking war, innocent people get hurt. this is why
people don't like it and also why people shouldn't be
surprised about these "accidents". You go into war and you
should expect everything that goes with it. This is how I
feel.

the bombing of Afghanistan wasn't a war it was a massacre.
How can you cal the most militarily powerful country in the
world bombing the poorest country in the world a war? It
wasn't even sanctioned by the UN.

And why did the US get rid of evidence?

And before you say anything about 9/11, none of the
terrorists were Afghans but Egyptians. Would you suggest we
bomb N. Ireland?
