glasse, sewing your oats is not a choice here. Dagibit i
think wants to experience a world without his support
systems which have allowed him to form his own ideas. In
life, people need to go out and live the world first-hand so
that they can have some frame of reference. It is a
precious, finite gift to be able to do this in a world where
others arent so lucky/wealthy/able.

Being 20 i understand his inspiration to want something more
out of life, to learn things, to gain some sort of wisdom.
In the end it doesn't matter anyway, you're going to be
walking on thin ice no matter what road you plan on taking.
All roads lead back to the same destination anyway.

It seems liek a pattern because people who are devout
Christians and reborn followers are people who have been let
down, people who need Christ to save them, but without
living in this world, how can they find this need to be
saved?

You don't need to put your hand over a flame to know it's
going to burn, but once you do, you know the reality of
never wanting to do it again.

I don't know if this applies directly, but it seems like
most christians or religious followers are those who have
been beaten down, abused drugs, and have had other
destructive issues, in which they need to be saved from. If
you don't ever experience the pain, how can you value the
solace of the lord?

actually i just realized my whole post was like a more
immature version of yours.

But glasse i have a question for you, what about people like
myself, who are not really interested in sewing oats, but i
have 'gifts' that i want to appreciate but not make so
important that i lose sight of reality?

Example, i'm going to this very expensive art school, a
little under 30k a year. Now i have had scholarships because
i've done stuff in high shcool that has been able to provide
me with at least a little sense of earning. But besides
that, my stepdad is paying for it. And i maintain decent
grades while working and stuff.

But at first i was really hesitant about committing to the
school, because i thought it was so fake, money driven etc.
I dropped all my classes at on e point because of paranoia
on this whole 2012 thing, feeling like i was ready to just
quit everything and just try and live my life without trying
to make anything for myself.

But i've learned how to paint, to do other things that by
going to that school i would have never known, or had the
motivation to do. I have been drawing and stuff since i was
very little, and making music since i was a teen, so when
people tell me i have a gift, i really appreciate it because
i knwo it's something i can rely on to feel good about that
i have. something that doesnt really require money to do.

So i have these gifts, to be able to make art while i'm
here, which for some human reason is very special, at least
to some. So would god not want me to appreciate these
things?

hey your art is good and you should still do something with
it. we don't know if anything is going to happen in 2012,
2022, or what. do i think it will happen in our lifetime?
yea, i really do. it is going to happen how it's going to
happen regardless of what we do though, and the best thing
for us to do is just be on the alert.

some people are called to leave their lives behind and go
evangelize to tribes in remote countries, and some people
are called to be pastors or become involved full time in
ministry. for most of us, however, there are people already
around us who need us to be their friend. God may give you
opportunities to talk to them, and they may listen, or they
may resent us for it. that is part of what counting
the cost is about. of course there are other ways to help
people too, other than just witnessing.

so back to your art, yea i mean that is a gift and you
should use it. if you want to go to school then go for it.
God's original intention for people wasn't to give up their
lives and go to ethiopia and live in a tent with a bible, it
was for them to live their lives, love Him, and explore the
gifts He gives them. we do have to make certain sacrifices
because of the current situation, which for some may find
them in ethiopia in said tent, but for any of us there is
still room for personal interests and aspirations, be they
painting or making music or whatever.

Fortunately our choices in life are not limited to
girlfriend-pissing bong champion vs. superstitious peasant.
Well, not everyone's choices, anyhow.

i've been trying to break it up a bit, hadn't really said
much for days. sorry if someone has a thread like this i
have to get in a word about it. i have to say some of this
now so people remember later on, and i think i've tried to
keep it to threads where it has come up, but notice with one
or two exceptions i have not made the threads. should i
have just let everyone tickle his ears and told him what he
knew the majority consensus would be?

xltronic has a lot of existentially related threads. it's
easy to stay on topic and somehow refer to scripture or the
word of God. you sound preachy, and i don't respond well to
that.

accept this video as my peace offering.

last word, to say that last time i checked you were the
majority consensus, whatever your persuasion may be, i don't
mean to box you.
