Hmm.. it looks good. Better than dead leaves, that's for
sure... you should check out trava first planet, btw. It
looks kind of crazy, and it is, but from what I've seen so
far, it's good fun!

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: It's another mecha-ish thing
from Gainax. I've only seen one episode, but it looked good.
Fun!

Golden Boy: Funny, but not funny as hell. With only six
episodes, though, worth a watch. 6/10

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei: 10/10. Watch it! Awesome, stylized
and absurd! <3!!!

Betterman: Comedy/thriller/horror. It doesn't get much
better, man! 10/10!

Mnemosyne seems good.

Penguin Musume Heart was funny.

Kite: Liberator was only ok. A bit weird, and not good
weird.

Kamen no Maid Guy: It's really funny so far, but there
are limits to how far they can take it, I think.

If you haven't seen Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei yet, I recommend
it whole-heartedly!

mm

I haven't seen much anime in the last couple of years (aside
from a couple of mainstream movies). What are the best anime
series made approx. between 2005-2008? Or anyway something
excellent to see? :)

A bit older than what I was looking for, but since I haven't
seen it, thanks for the tip! Which reminds me, I still
haven't watched the complete Lain. Darn.

Don't watch much anime anymore, other than Bleach on
Adultswim, but I did d/l the subs to Tekkaman Blade and The
Super Dimension Fortress Macross. I saw Robotech as a
little kid briefly and again in the mid-90s, but I figured
it was time to see the "proper" installment of the first
Robotech arc.

Haibane Remne was pretty good, but i found it hard to follow
the dialogue, the subs were too fast and found it hard to
read. btw i never watch dubbed anime!

I prefer anime series

one of my favs is 'Rurouni kenshin', he is a bad ass, but
also gentle and wise 5/5 (samurai adventure)

Chobits 4/5 (cute romantic comedy)

Serial Experiments Lain 4/5 (dark surreal)

Elfen Lied 5/5 (multi genre, fairly dark but cute)

Has anyone seen the anime movie about the raccoons who can
inflate their scrotal sacs? I think it's called Pom Poko.

Balls of Furry

"Look out below!"

That would be Pom Poko: The Raccoon War. It's genius. Directed by Isao
Takahata, the co-founder with Hayao Miyazaki of the Ghibli
Studios. The same guy who made Grave of the Fireflies.

I love it. It manages to raise ecological consciousness in
between crazy ass humour and weirdness.

Pom Poko is worth spending the money on. Support Ghibli, and
tell them that this is the kind of film you want them to put
out.

Only thing I've recently watched is Raxhephon. Can't say I
was impressed.

One of my all time favorites is Monster. It features the
ultimate bad guy. All the slow side story stuff is a bit too
much sometimes but when the story focusses on Johan Liebert
it's one of the most thrilling things I've ever seen.

yeah i can understand that, it probably is overrated... I
just finished watching it tonight, the ending was pretty
powerful but a little abrupt, there are lots of unanswered
questions. It falls into the usual anime trappings, the
story is a little contrived, i'm not a big fan of the art
style, especially after watching the highly stylised Haibane
Renmei, I hated the idea of having different character
drawings for Nyu and Lucy... overall I enjoyed it though, it
was gripping, had mostly well developed characters and was a
little different to the usual anime.

Now when are those new Evangelion movies going to come out
on dvd?!

it's good in almost every aspect, except in pacing. It
takes way too slow to start up, and should have been
condensed a bit. Also, there was some backstory I felt
needed to explain the storyline more. When it's good though,
it's very good.
