this is all confusing-the current poll results show that
most ppl on this board like rdjs ambiental music and yet
not many other ambient musicians/music are beeing discussed
weird

ambient discussions aren't very fun as people tend to fall
asleep in the middle ...

ambient artists are discussed... just not as often as other
artists.

good point though

saw2 is definitely my favorite aphex twin work...though not
my favorite ambient one.

stars of the lid - the ballasted orchestra, is probably my
favorite. anything by them is amazingly good to me.

biosphere - substrata is nice as well...

windy and carl are nice....so is labradford.

i guess tetsu inoue is claimed to be great with ambient, but
i didnt like ambiant otaku too much...though inoues work
with atom heart and bill laswell are fucking great.

drone ambient is my main choice, but lots of ambient is nice

excellent, I've been lookingn high and low for some
extra-droney ambient.. what would you reccommend? or is that
what you just listed?

You must have read my mind ... those are my favorite ambient
artists as well.

I've been listening to some Susumu Yokota recently who is on
the Eno side of the ambient scale.

mm...for straight up drone ambient, stars of the lids are
masters. its done with two guitars/fx boxes/4 track
recorder. its amazing stuff

i suggest "the ballasted orchestra" by SOTL, overall. though
most of everything they have made i enjoy a lot.

i guess the best biosphere sounding artist is biosphere....

pete namlook is biosphere though, and pete namlook has
released tons of other shit under that name i guess, though
i havent heard it.

some other good ambient is "tear ceremony - film decay",
though i have a hard time finding it.

theres tons more, its just hard to know where to look. BUT

http://www.sleepbot.com/ambience/

go there for a GREAT ambient list. sorted by a system based
on the type of ambient it is, by artist, chronologically,
and best picks. even has samples for a lot of them. i found
a lot of new ambient this way.

browse around i suppose, great resource. im sure there are
other resources too.

in any case, shenzhou was nice. very minimal.

substrata is my favorite of biospheres though. his more
"beaty" stuff im not too fond of, though its alright.

guess it depends on your mood
