Has anyone seen this movie with Robin Williams? If so what
is the quote he says while in the MAll cafeteria to the
wife:

"Fear is..."

my BF went to see this yesterday and i'm waiting to hear how
it was. unfortunately it's in limited release so it's not
come to my town yet! =/

i'm curious about the soundtrack, was it good? there was a
rumor that Trent Reznor for NIN had a hand in it, but i
believe from some articles that it was just that a rumor.
still......no one i know had seen the movie so maybe the
RUMORS were RUMORS....hahahah

i LOVE quotes i hope someone remembers it.

do you know who robin williams was quoting?

flea....maybe you can help me figure this out.

what is it about comedians (lets talk robin williams
specifically) that make them seem so creepy.

part of 'insomnia's' horror if you will was the benign face
of robin williams....yet there was something else there that
gave you a chill.

i was trying to think of it......but i can't put my finger
on it.

any thoughts?

I dont know I wonder about that my self..it might stem from
the childhood stranger danger warnings..no candy from the
nice stranger sort of thing..but then there's the whole
scary clown factor thrown into it..we have been programmed
not to trust someone too nice or funny...and I agree about
the benign face in Insomnia being a factor in the fear..I
was actually convinced that he was an average Joe that just
fucked up real bad..until he snapped again towards the
end...

for me the real suspense of the movie was about how far,
bent and twisted, Al Pacino was gonna get till the end...and
the answer satisfyingly was VERY!

do you watch The Shield?

sadly i don't watch 'the sheild'

i've heard good things about it, but my schedule is such
that many programs that come on during the evening i'm not
around for.

YOU NAILED IT DOOD.

that whole scary clown stuff really makes sense to me. (i
hate clowns...always have even before poltergiest)

and i agree quite a preformance from Al.....i didn't expect
the ending at all which is a good thing in my MOVIE book.

it was funny cos the whole atmosphere really came
through....by the end of the movie me and my bf were totally
frozen.....it was a great movie....=0)

the landscapes blew me away..stunning..how the whole flight
in begining took you this magical..landscape..also a cue
that you are as much a stranger in a strange land as Al
Pacino and none of the rules apply...

I am warming up to The Shield I really liked Micheal Chilkis
in the Commish..the soft decent good back..here he is a
different bad beast...it's almost inspired by Training Day
and that most awesomesly frightening movie Bad
Leiutennat..do try and catch it when you can...

The movie was good... worth seeing in the theatre. Mark
Romanek is a famous music video director [Fiona Apple/
Madonna/ Michael Jackson/ Lenny Kravitz/ Janet Jackson] and
this is his first feature. Very beautiful. The soundtrack is
very nice, don't think it's NIN, but I'm just guessing.
Robin Williams is AWESOME. He makes the movie. All the other
actors are HORRIBLE. The wife in the movie cannot act for
shit. She looks good and that's all. I got no emotion for
her. The movie would've been bad if it hadn't been for Mark
Romanek's great aesthetics/script and Robin Williams acting
skills. Getting back to the main issue... what is that
quote?

I went with a bunch of friends and they say it's something
like:

"Fear is something you've already experienced" But I know
that is not how it's worded. The wording makes EVERYTHING.

So if any of ya go see the movie and you all should... pay
attention for me:)

There was a NIN song in there... La Mer. I believe there was
also that Clint Mansell Overture (same as from requium for a
dream... damn good song). The movie was good too. Robin
Williams plays the lonliest character I have ever seen in a
movie, completetly beleiveable too

this is NOT mark romanek's first picture. check IMDB. i
really liked arlington road.

trent/nin did not score the picture afterall. check cdnow
for the soundtrack - the 2 names attached to the cd did in
fact score it.

wolfslice: you saw the screener. the "final" version has no
"la mer" and no scores from requiem for a dream or american
beauty.

i enjoyed the movie =) a "slow terror" for sure. robin
williams' performance was creepy to the maximum. ending
could've been written about 100x better though.

To answer your quote question:

"The things we fear the most have already happened to us."

I see Heil + Klimek did the score. They did a lot of work on
the Run Lola Run soundtrack. That's pretty much all I know
about them. Though if someone told me Trent Reznor did the
score, I'd probably believe it. My favorite parts of the
movie were the narratives done by Robin Williams. Reminded
me a lot of Guy Pearce's narratives in Memento. The way
Robin Williams describes the importane of his job, pictures,
things of that nature.

It's funny to see Gary Cole pretty much reprise his role
from Office Space. Even uses the same name "Bill"

I thought Robin Williams was much better in this than in
Insomnia. Insomnia was Al Pacino's show. The previews for
that movie made Robin seem much more sinister than he really
was in the movie. In this film there's no doubt that his
character is deeply disturbed. There is other things i'd
like to go into but I don't want to spoil anything.

heehe DUNE is great.....however i must see Robin's
preformance in this movie.

*prays that it will come to my town before the end of the
year*

clint mansell is a genius composer i have both soundtracks
to Pi and Req for a Dream. i was hoping they would release
the intro he did for Murder by Numbers because it was
excellent, but i've never seen it! =/

the movie was all right.
the story itself was a little stupid and un realistic but
the direction was good. Robin williams was great but I
think Insomnia was better. It's difficult to say though
whether Robin Williams is actually good or if he just seems
good because you are not used to seeing him in a role like
this. just like when he started doing serious roles. he
seemed great but then he turned out a pile of stinker movies
(what dreams may come, death to smoochie, patch adams..
etc..)

** spoiler kinda **

i'll put my spoiler comments at the bottom of this post.
don't read further if you havent seen this movie.!!!

so when i say it was written stupidly, one scene in
particular is at the end when the cops show up at the hotel.
why didn't they just go straight to the husbands room? if
they thought he might be in danger and they knew he was in
the hotel don't you think that would be the first place to
go?
also, why did cy (williams)try running away all panicy? if
he was so anxious to get away, why did he lay about in his
room before running?
also, who was holding the camera taking pictures of the
husband making out with his mistress? did they have it on a
timer? and why would they take pictures anyway? it could
and did get used as evidence against them.

anyway these are just a few of the inconsistancies i
noticed. Mark romanek is a good director but i don't think
he is much of a writer.
