I know what you mean, its over descriptive, but thats also what makes funny.Like 5 pages of him describing his beauty regime,it can be too much. But it is a very funny book,I would recommend it.

Yup, I found it a case of The Good points about it eventually becoming The Bad points :) I had the same problem with Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Gray, which I loved until I encountered PAGE AFTER PAGE of furniture/fashion descriptions

I think it's just a shadow... due to the small size required on here it makes gifs kinda hard to make out sometimes.
By the way, I have this avatar not only cause it's my favourite book, but also cause the chap in question (Christian Bale) was born a few miles up the road from me! Coolies

outside_ninja if I was to read any Oscar Wilde, what would you recommend first ?
I get paid tomorrow,so I`ll probably pick up a couple of books.

But it's just the funniest thing I've ever read. Everytime he does the banshee thing I crack up....

:D Did you see the programme they made of crime & punishment[it was on BBC2 a while back],I only seen the first half, but I was completely shocked[considering how old the book is],when the woman offers herself to him and he sticks an axe in her head.Pretty brutal, hehe
I wish I seen the other half,but I was working at the time:([bastard,bastard,cunt etc.]hehe

It was Gritty,Dark,Well made,Superbly acted and that scene was pretty brutal[as I wasnt expecting it]what got me was the fear in the woman[screaming etc.]and she lifts up her skirt in a bid to save her life, but he sticks the axe in her head anyway.I hope they show it again so I can see it all,I might actually leave Oscar Wilde and buy this book, thanks for reminding me cause I thought about buying it after seeing this. Not what I expected.

It's just about my favourite book -- His just about my favourite author... After that, read The Idiot, THe House of the Dead, and The Brothers Karamazov... Dostoyevsky was actually sentenced to death as a young man, which was commuted to Hard Labor in a Siberian Penal Camp (The House of the Dead is loosely based on this).

Do you recommend any philosophy books?I still cant find the book of five spheres by miyamoto musashi[think thats his name]glasgow`s pretty limited in the books I like :(

I didnt get up to Glasgow today, slept in & was working at 3,so had a look in town. They didnt have crime & punishment[pretty shocking that they wouldnt have such a classic book]but they had The Brothers Karamazov,so bought that instead.Looks like it will be quite a hefty read :),but I think it will be worth it.
