Sorry, this is almost a copy of my "Caustic Window Comp." post, but nevertheless:
I noticed that my both 12" Envane vinyls have a much longer playing time than the 1 CD version( one track is almost 4 minutes longer ). Are these extended versions? I already found out that the 12" are not to be played at 45 rpm, which might have caused the different lengths. So? Could anybody give me more information?

Sounds like a shitty turntable.
Are the tracklengths noted on the LP?

No, its not the turntable...... I've recorded Aphex' ICBYD and the track times are within a margin of 2 seconds from the CD i also own......

No, the LP doesn't mention track times!

play the cd while simultaniously playing the LP and see where you can tell the difference..
autechre.nu may be able to provide more insight

Hmm, when i multiply all CD track times by 33/45 they're all allmost equal to the CD version....... This solves our little problem! They are 45rpm disks!

But why then, are EP7 vinyls correct at 33rpm? Do i have to do a wild guess every time i buy a 12"???

it is pretty stupid that they don't put the rpm on the label, since playing a record at the wrong speed can damage it.

45, indeed, but Envane sounds better at 33. I recorded both versions to CD and the 33 is much more emotional, particularly Draun and Laughing Quarter.

Envane is, imo, the best ep Ae have done.
laughing quarter beats anything. I must've heard that track about a 100 times (literally).

Generally as a rule EPs are 45rpm and LPs are 33 (not always true, but mostly) and Envane is an EP.
Check out the run-out grooves on side A of the second 12", if it's got WAP 89 XAE scratched in it, you've got the 'alternative' version of Laughing Quarter which isn't on the CD version or other 12" versions. Not actually longer than the regular version, but different. Ish.

It's just a little bit different in the last minute. Kinda different beat structure playing it out. It's cool. Not really worth shelling out loads for though unless you're a collector. xltronic will have samples :)

ooh, that beat playing the track out is one of the best things about lghng qrter, compositorally (is that a word?) speaking.
so this is on some of the pressing, or all?
theres nothing about it on autechre.nu..
now I'll just have to order the 2 12" from warpmart just to see...

It's weird, some of the pressings of part 2 have the regular version on, some have the other. It's really pot luck which one you get. There's no way of telling which is which apart from checking the run-out groove, or playing it. They're otherwise identical.
If you get a copy it could just easily be the regular one.

Go for it, though I wouldn't get my hopes up. Warpmart doesn't have one in stock on the website, so best bet is record stores which let you look at the vinyl before buying. Or ebay with a kind soul who'll check the run-out if you ask

Hmm, mine has indeed XAE on it....... is it rare or have they pressed equal quantities of the normal and 'X'tended version???

Don't think it's 'rare' as such, y'just can't ever be sure which one you've got until you get it. No idea about quantities.
