reason is great. but you either love or hate it. what i like is the way you can 'wire stuff up' i only wish my crappy home studio cables stayed that neat! :) im quite ashamed to say my mate with broadband is downloading the 3xCDs for REASON2 for me,since I cant afford to buy it and i really want it. my theory is if i get rich from music then money goes to the props, otherwise its just a bit of fun:)

it seems reason messes with its output in some rather weird ways... its output it not what it should be given what you put in...

I use ReBirth myself, admitedly I'm not quite as "advanced" as some of the other music makers on here, so I like that program much more for it's simplicity, but also the amount of easy-to-use options it has. Tuareg II is also a great, simple program I use... the only problem with that one is it's rather unstable and tends to crash just before you get to save those hours of hard work spent on making a track. When it doesn't crash though, it's pretty good.
ReBirth is made by the same people as Reason I believe, if we're talking about the same thing.

you could run it through reason1. this was a necessity if you wanted a 303 since the subtractor (reason synth) could do a 303, although it could do someother cool stuff. 808/909 in reason are no prob tho, just use samples:)
oh btw according to the propellerheads web site reason2 now syncs with loads of other sequencers using rewire:)

I think it's a bit strange that you have to pay for the loops and samples when you only want the program. They should make a seperate package without the samples at a lower price, that would be nice...

definately that is a good idea...BUT...the .exe is around 5megs so even I could download it. when you NEED 3CDs worth it limits to a certain extent piracy, since you need broadband or lots of patience oh and that magic FTP address :)
