Amon Tobin: Transmutator

Another music thread from Meho, because you know Meho
always brings you the best of music you didn't even know
existed.

I know some of you are familiar with Amon Tobin, this great
breaks 'n' beats artist who records for Ninja Tune. He has
made one album as Kujo on some label I can't remember the
name of(recently re-pressed on Ninja Tune) and three Ninja
Tune albums. All great stuff with lively breakbeats and
beautiful textures. He seems to have sampled a bunch of 50's
jazz records and some film music too and has very
characteristic way of putting these sounds together.

Anyway, I have his new album, my friend got it off soulseek
and it's allegedly called "Transmutator" (Previous albums
being called "Bricollage", "Permutations" and
"Supermodified"). The catch is, there is no mention of this
album on either Ninja Tune website or Amon's homepage, so
god knows when and if this album is coming out really. Do
yourself a favour and get it now, therefore. It's a bit
darker and more, er, peaceful affair to an extent and, while
you can still speak of Amon's signature sound being there,
he is moving on. One track hints at clickhop, similar to
Prefuse 73 but with Amon's own edge and several tracks
boldly step into drukqs teritorry, with insanely complex
beats and edits. But there are still some funky bootyshakers
with phat, heavy beats too. Anyway, you know that, when Meho
decides to speak about music, he has a good reason for that,
so check it out. Meho has spoken.

i'm wary of finding unreleased albums by instrumental
artists on the internet, they can be fakes.. but i love
tobin so i'll give this one a listen. it's high time he
released something so it could just be an early advance.
warp didn't announce new stuff by ae and prefuse until long
after they were online, and i don't think they've announced
the new squarepusher yet.
