I can't believe how many times this question pops up here.
I'm just a lowly Lurker and see it all the time.

EP - extended play

Best EP ever: Autechre EP7

Ae called it an EP not an LP even though it's 2 EPs on the
CD.

Woe is me.

im assuming extended play conotates that it is like the
tracks that wernt put on an album, because they were made
after it was released, but it would have been on the album
other wise?

or something?

single... 7" or (Djay 12") record with two songs... an A
side and a B side... (history before compact disc)

EP.. Extended Play, longer than a single, but shorter than a
full album, cheaper than a full album. a full album used to
typically have 8 to 12 songs (before compact disc)...

an EP often had a single, than a few other tracks, some of
it sorta sub-stangard (but not always)

...all this has become rather confusing after vinyl has been
fazed out of the mainstream and CDs took over

E.P.=endo-prostate...thus crap that makes u erect when u
crap it out...very simular to the feeling of deleting shitty
rephlex artists' mp3's off ur overwhelmingly huge 80 gig HD,
where u still have over 40 gigs to spare, but the shittiness
is SOOOOOOOOO shitty, u'd actually, physically, vomit poop
if you listen to it another time!

extended play/eps are usually 10"s, lps (long playing) are
usually 12"s...

To be exact EP stands for Extended Player, as in a record
that's extended. It originates from when a 7" vinyl record
used to be a standard format for single song releases
("singles") waaay back. An extended player would be a record
that played for longer than a 7" - usually a 12" record.
Nowadays an EP usually just refers to a single cos there's
no real standard. And an LP is a long player. Cos it's long
:)

eps that are split over two cds. now they rile me, cos youre
usually buying the same track twice.

were the "on" and "ventolin" eps a concious attempt to get a
chart placing?
